Anyone grow their own vegies? atm I have silverbeet, cabbage, beans, tomatoes, chilli and cauliflower going. any helpful hints would be appreciated.
On topic gravy, but I havnen't got a clou about veggies: Traditional Danish Brown Gravy - courtesy of Google translate 2.5 tbsp wheat flour 2.5 tbsp butter 5 dl Fund (?), broth(?), milk or half milk, half broth(?) salt and pepper suit How? 1 The butter is melted in a saucepan and stir in the flour little by little. 2When all the butter is absorbed into the flour, add the liquid in little by little, stirring constantly. 3After all the liquid has come in, the stirring is continued, while it is boiling put through for five minutes. 4 Add salt and pepper and add a little gravy suit, stirring, until the desired tan is achieved.
terror tbh there isn't a lot 2 it apart from hard work and a lot of Luck.....................make sure your area is clear of weed and big stones.......if I were you I would clear the area before this winter comes(oct best month), then cover with horse manure and leave until march next year....................................after that its just picking times on what 2 plant and when, making your you keep down your weeds and making sure you give them plenty of water>>>>>>>then comes the luck side of things>>>>BRITISH SUN. enjoy dudes............ I love me allotment (and no I don't grow my weed there)....one thing it does is give you five minutes peace and karma. a list of things ive grown this year. onion garlic shallots broad beans French beans sweet-corn parsnips carrots potatoes lettuce cucumber parsnips turnips tomatoes melon grape chillies blueberry strawberry apples plums and pear trees didn't give much.....which is strange because my neighbouring plot got lots. all the above are very enjoyable 2 grow and you reap the benefits from,..... but the money is in growing your own medication if you ask me
Gravy granules do the job, musty. For onion gravy, fry some onions in a little oil,(I use olive oil),mix granules in water, add mixture to onions, voila, very nice onion gravy,in minutes. Add salt/pepper to taste.
Do you rotate your crops Aber? Some serious allotment owners I know make a scale plan drawing of their plots,so they know what was planted and when. This helps when planning subsequent years' crops. Leaving small areas fallow for a year or two, also helps future growth/yields,etc. Allotments are hard work, but very rewarding.
oh yes vetch dude defo crop rotation butty, it doesn't really work if you keep em in the same place year after year>>>>>>sort of degenerates the soil.........so by rotating you keep all sorts of nice nutrients in soil for next planting session. your also correct on allotments......I enjoy mine and enjoy talking 2 the old gents that give me advice on growing its an essential part of life lost among many in the western worlds greedy consumer products drive on making us reliant on the machine......................................I have not bought veg for my house hold for the last 4yrs its all been grown by myself or those around me,...and all it cost was time and some hard graft
Stop it with your crazy recipe.....proper gravy is made by using the fat/meat juices and deglazing the pan you cooked the meat in with stock (can also use the water your veggies were cooked in or even a little vino for a more posh version). For thicker gravy, just cook off some flour in the meat juices first making sure your whisking hand is ready to get rid of any lumps, Season. Some add gravy browning. Enjoy.
I buy chicken **** pellets and dig em in a couple of months before runner beans go in I get big crops of big juicy beans every year they love it. No luck with toms tho tried lots of varieties and growing methods and cleaning but get blight every year due to the rainy summers we've had but put couple of plants in this year and may be ok if they go red in time. Grapes, apples and pears good this year after none last, been away all summer so slugs had a ball on the strawbs and other crops but not as bad as expected I here you had a decent summer here this year ?
I thought this was good.......... Recently, a female police officer arrested Patrick Lawrence, 22 year old white male, fornicating with a pumpkin in the middle of the night. The next day, at Cardiff Magistrates Court, Lawrence was charged with lewd and lascivious behaviour, public indecency and public intoxication. The suspect explained that as he was passing an allotment on his way home from a drinking session when he decided to stop, 'You know how a pumpkin is soft and squishy inside, and there was no one around for miles or at least I thought there wasn't anyone around' he stated. Lawrence went on to say that he pulled over to the side of the road, picked out a pumpkin that he felt was appropriate to his purpose, cut a hole in it, and proceeded to satisfy his pressing need. 'Guess I was really into it, you know?' he commented with evident embarrassment. In the process of doing the deed, Lawrence failed to notice an approaching police car and was unaware of his audience until PC Brenda Taylor approached the side of his car. 'It was an unusual situation, that's for sure,' said Officer Taylor. 'I walked up to Lawrence and he's just banging away at this pumpkin.' Officer Taylor went on to describe what happened when she approached Lawrence .. 'I said: 'Excuse me sir, but do you realize that you're having sex with a pumpkin??' He froze and was clearly very surprised that I was there, and then he looked me straight in the face and said: "A pumpkin..... ****... Is it midnight already?' The Magistrates could not contain their mirth. The Western Mail wrote an article describing this as the "Best come-back line ever" ! Sentencing is deferred until someone can be serious.!
This is a bit of a Sunday lunch thread with the veggies and gravy! Swim is spot on with his gravy recipe and Aber I am very impressed with your diversity!
I am impressed aber, got strawberrys going as well as garlic and pumpkin. need a rhubarb plant. you have like a community market garden or just exchange with your neighbours?
Hi Musty , Ye I have got peas /b,beans beetroot spinach. silverpet , Rubarb, onions ,shilots carrots,
its done out of wanting 2be more in control of what im eating rather than just except the crap they are selling in the super markets like(Tesco asda)........................in answer 2 your question on the community stuff, no, no community thing at all, we just pass things around when we see each other..........tbh I cant give it away this year, no fkr is interested in free food, which is a shame because im putting a lot in the compo-heep or just letting it rot where is stands. glamexile hey dude, there aint no limits 2my growing skills, ive been mellow for the last four months on the herb I grew last time
