Former Fulham defender Baird still undecided over QPR contract offer By Laurie Whitwell PUBLISHED: 09:42 GMT, 2 September 2013 | UPDATED: 09:51 GMT, 2 September 2013 Former Fulham defender Chris Baird will wait until after the transfer window has shut to decide whether to join QPR. Baird is a free agent after leaving Craven Cottage at the end of last season and he has attracted interest from Championship sides Bolton and Blackpool. He has been training with Harry Redknapp's side in recent weeks but is yet to confirm where his future lies, despite being offered a contract by QPR. Speaking to www.westlondonsport.com, Redknapp said: 'Heâs still here training. Weâve made him an offer. Itâs up to Chris really whether he wants to take it. 'I think we need to know pretty soon. He can sign after the deadline because heâs out of work, but we need an answer really. 'Weâve made him a decent offer and Iâd like to have him. He can play in four or five positions so would be good to have.' The 31-year-old is able to move outside of the transfer window as he is not contracted to a club. I'd tell him to do one, if he was any good Fulham would have kept him, who the **** does he think he is, Ronaldo.
I said the same and got a load of abuse for it. Its even worse that hes training with us and still looking for an offer elsewhere. Id have given him a deadline a couple of weeks ago.
Former Fulham defender Chris Baird will wait until after the transfer window has shut to decide whether to join QPR. waiting to see if he gets a better offer any offer tell him to get stuffed harry
What's he waiting for? Seasons started already Baird, No Prem teams wants you. Put up or shut up. Agree with everyone on here, tell him if he doesn't sign today the deal is off
On the other hand ......... It does show that we are not offering anybody silly money. I say withdraw the offer today then offer him half of the original next week.
Nothing to be gained in giving him a deadline or telling him the deal is off. I'm sure Harry is pursuing other alternatives and if they happen we won't need him, if we can't get what we want elsewhere we may end up doing a deal with him. No point in burning any bridges just yet. It's a big risk strategy for Baird too, if he passes on our offer and we get sorted he may not get anything even half as good. Let the hare sit would be my way of doing things.
I'd 'cut my nose to spite my face', and tell him to f*** off. We ain't being held to ransom by some second rate pri** anymore. If he doesn't want to accept our kind offer to an out of work player, not wanted by his old club then so be it. But that's just me.
Nothing to lose by doing it either. I'm sure we've got other options, and Baird needs us more than we need him. A timely reminder of that to him would be welcome.
He's just a player looking for his last contract. Some on here would have him tarred and feathered and burnt at the stake for pondering his options.
Can't blame him for keeping his options open. We've pitched our offer. At some stage we will tell him to make his mind up. Until then lets focus on seeing who Hogan & Balanta will be loaned to next
We haven't offered him a contract for the sake of it, Harry feels we need him. We could have got someone in today in his place.
Clue as to whether there is something to be lost comes within your inability to name a better alternative. Our squad is thin so a free transfer who can play across the back for or if desperate at defensive mid seems like a sensible signing to me.
There are always defensive options out there. My point is that Chris Baird isn't good enough to hold us to ransom is he? Don't disagree for a second that he wouldn't be a good signing but the club need to move on from last seasons cr*p of being star struck by average players.
