Illori will be for this year cups, few prem games, and next year to kick on. Depending ont he seriousness of JOhnsons injury it is Wisdom and Kelly there. Sakho will be competiting wtih Agger who still has those issues with following his man ( especially set pieces). Skrtel did well, but think it is the work he has shown over the past few years that shows he can be a liability sometimes. Last year he had some awesome games and not so awesome as well. Hell against City last year didn't he score a goal, defended like a champ,...... then gifted them a goal with a passback? It happens, but just kind of describes Skrtel to a T for me. Glad we have depth in the back now though!!! RB- Johnson, Kelly, Wisdom RCB-Toure,Skrtel,Illori, Coates ( injured), Kelly, Wisdom LCB- Agger, Sakho LB- Enrique, Cissokho Finally!!!! Need a DM though, wonder if Diame has gone under the radar means we might sneak in?
Yes! It's all about that depth and competition in every position. No player should feel safe or a shoo in for the starting line up. This is part of Rodgers' philosophy about the squad, sorry, 'group'.
Sakho now comes in after watching that game knowing he needs to play well to get in, that can only be a good thing for me.
One reason I'm glad we got the win today with Sakho/Ilori watching on. If our defense had had a hard time they'd probably be thinking this is easy street for me.
It's interesting- we're all 'Pool fans and we all watched the same game yet we have such differing opinions. I've always said I thought Skrtel is nowhere near as bad as some on here think. I can see he has some limitations, and he's not as cultured as BR seems to expect him to be, but we do miss that aggressive defending (contradiction in terms?) when he's not there. I was pleased he had a good game after such a long lay-off and people saying his heart might not be in it. I thought Johno had a good game as well. My problem with him is that he gets caught out of position too much but today he didn't have the opportunity to go wandering so his defensive contribution was better. I thought Coutinho struggled a bit to get into it- he occasionally showed flashes of the brilliance we know he has, but nowhere near motm for me. He's getting knocked about a bit at the moment as teams get wise to the threat he provides, but that's just going to get worse and he has to cope with it. Sturridge had spells of anonymity I thought, but he is still struggling for fitness. I'm more impressed with him every game, tbh. If he keeps this up he'll be a leg-end. I'm pleased we're grinding out the right results, but I'll be much happier if we start busting the net a bit more often. The next few games ought to be a bit more open so maybe we'll see a few more go in.
Skrtel was a contender for the league player of the season (prem, not just Liverpool) 15 months ago people seem so eager to to write a player like that off while other teams players who hit a dip in for are always 'still class', and it's permanent not sure if that's grass is greener syndrome or just morbid depression
Those clean sheets are good, but now we have some games where we need to bump our GD up for when it gets to crunch time!
And that's why we all love the game too PS...its also good that people can have an opinion on a player but make comments that contradict that view after a game; ie me
That's an interesting one. He's just made Agger vice captain, so clearly rates him highly. But spending near on 20mil for Sakho you would expect him to be a starter. More likely to see Sakho and Agger imo.
He doesn't need to be brave, Toure is injured and will need to reclaim his place. Good problem to have though
But Skrtel's in contention after today's performance, not sure he deserves to be dropped (my opinion of him is irrelevant)
With everyone talking about their unsung motm, I'm surprised both gerrard and Lucas slipped under the radar. Lucas played like the Lucas we love, hope this is going to be the constant we get from him. Gerrard was massive in his work rate too. Enrique played well too. He beat Nani, who had the start on him, and then turned him rather easily. Was iMpressed with most all. Sturridge got another goal, held the ball up well. Aspas, if nothing else, drew defenders away from sturridge. Not the best game though, and I would've liked for him to get a card for a tackle more than complaining and waving an imaginary card. Sterling wasn't as flashy, but he didn't need to be. Solid but not spectacular game for me. On topic, Skrtle the Trtle was fantastic for me. Won the ball in the air, a couple of challenges that went well but had me nervous, but also the distribution was great. Hope he can carry on with this kind of game.
Waving an imaginary card is a pet hate of mine (baring in mind I don't like to use the word hate), there is just no need for it and I see it in very similar light to diving.
Same here. I saw it and said 'card him! No need for that.' It was about both cleverley (should've been a red, but not too worried about that,) and Aspas.
Also, I post that whole thing (typed from my phone,) and all you can say is you hate when people flash imaginary cards?
Sorry pal, I didn't put anything else because I'd only be repeating what I've already said in this thread
I hate most things that modern footballers do, tbh. Diving, waving imaginary cards, gobbing off at the officials, etc, etc. If I was a ref I think every match would end up about six a side.
