Ellis Short has been very clever since he dismissed MoN last season IMO. Along with his good friend Di Fanti, he has constructed the back room machinery for stability and growth but under a set up that allows a new manager to be seamlessly drafted in should PDC fail. For instance, let's say after 20 games we are still struggling in the bottom 3 and not looking like we are improving at all. We have a coach now and he could be removed and replaced with say a Poyet ( my choice last year) or another similar appointment without much upheaval. The DOF remains as do the scouting system and continuity keeps a stable base. I think it's a clever and well thought out plan and rather than giving PDC a long term future, it shows things are now set to be able to quickly change if needed. The public berating of his players is going to prove PDC's downfall IMO and my concerns about his ability to manage at this level is emerging.
Could you get any more sanctimonious ....... you really are incredible. BTW, the bit I've bolded doesn't actually make sense in any way.
Fair points mate however, we could have the best backroom staff in the history of football we'd still be hanging out in the bottom 3. Results on the pitch matter more than a stable backroom staff for me anyway, bit simplistic but got a massive hangover that would fell a Silverback at the minute.
I see that your not a PDC fan and would prefer a change, you were a big supporter of MON and he was worse, im all for letting him get on with his job, we are a new team and it will take time to come good, the majority of the team playing yesterday were the dross we had when Paolo took over, it takes time to get everyone singing from the same hymn sheet lets be positive, even Manu U lost to a dross team **** happens lets move on we cant win em all, not just yet anyway haha
So where are PDC's new players? If this team isn't his why did we bring in 11 new ones and not play them? Even MoN knew Ji was shocking yet PDC picks him and that's okay?
Can you explain to me how MoN was worse than what we have seen up to now? I think we have gone massively backwards. I think PDC is still living off one result against the mags. At the end of last season, say we beat Spurs instead of Newcastle, I doubt he would still have this support. Don't get me wrong, I hope he turns it around. But with 11 new faces (and he wants more) that if and when this team gels, it could be too late.
he has to see him play to make a decision if hes shocking or not everyone deserves a chance for a clean slate Ji has had a couple of games now along with Wickham, bet the decision is made now though get rid along with Vaughn Gardner, we have better player now to fill their boots, Seb is a quandary though Swedish international and crap, bet hes off as well now,
Yes i was bored witless watching MONs team, loved the pre season games, the mags game, the Everton win, and apart from yesterday i have been entertained. under Mon i felt suicidal watching them. Im all for giving Paulo time he will come good i know it.
Are you seriously saying we should have stuck with the dross from last year? They were poor and getting worse week by week. He's making massive changes that will obviously take time to work.
Its my opinion Smug, I have watched games at the end of last season and watched all this season games. I find the guys tactics questionable, his man management will alienate most players and I think the some players he has brought in are simply not good enough. But I am prepared to be proved wrong. I will support any player who plays in red and white, always have always will. But I have not felt so pessimistic about a season as I do for this one for some time. Lets hope he gets its right..god knows I want him to, I just doubt he has the ability to do it.
Thats what annoyed me yesterday, posted elsewhere about it. 5 of his signings were on the bench. ffs if he doesnt think they are better than Seb or Vaughan we are f*cked. I wanted Poyet after MON but the Brighton incident was bad timing. Happy to let PDC have his chance tho. Says the right things just need the players, his players, to start performing where it matters.
My opinion is that he's new to the Premier League and learning, quickly hopefully. The scouts we have now give me hope that the new signings aren't more Danny Graham's or Kilgallon's ........ they'll take time to settle as we all know. It hasn't been a good start but we've not been particularly outplayed in 3 Premier League games, two of which were away from home. Yesterday was winnable after the equaliser ...... terrible mistake by such an experienced player and the manager is entitled to say so. It's not as if he's saying any different to the rest of the world is it? It's great to see Fletcher back and a win against Arsenal would get the place buzzing.
Its staggering naive to think that publicly slagging his players week after week is going to unite the dressing room and lead to a successful SAFC in either the long or short term. As fans, we can think what we like and pundits and journalists can write what they think but a football manager has to protect his players publicly whilst absolutely torturing them behind closed doors if he sees fit. All the top class managers protect their players but then roast them behind closed doors. Fergie is the best exponent of that as was Cloughie. I don't think JOS decision yesterday was very clever but then I don't think he did it on purpose either and no one will have been more disappointed than the player himself. He has come into the dressing room and apologized but then has had to listen to his manager individualize his error and tell the world he didn't want to hear his apology. He has stuck with Ji then publicly humiliated him in 2 games now. Would Fergie have done that to JOS? I don't think so and what standards is PDC trying to get his players to live by exactly? His as a player? Was he such an angel and a bastion of great play every game and did he never make errors of judgement as a player? Mmmmm! PDC's abrasive style and heart on his sleeve management style may well be of many fans liking but that style was always his Achilles heel IMO and he will soon find 3 or 4 key players in that dressing room rebelling. What is he going to do then, ask Ellis for another 7 or 8 new players in January? Will ES buy into that? I don't think so. If alarm bells are not actually ringing for some here then maybe a tinkle is beginning to be heard. I just watched the Sunday Supplement on Sky and every one of the journalists said that he is going to lose the dressing room and they will have players they talk to inside dressing rooms as well. Players wont put up with this very long. We have gone 7 games without a win now in the EPL under PDC and performed very poorly in all but the Spurs game. Against Fulham we passed it about well but never looked like scoring. How many more will we have to go without a win before those tinkling bells become full blown church bells? 10 games? 12 games? I cant see a win in the next 4 but maybe Swansea will offer us a respite before the derby. After all they are the only team currently keeping us from bottom place. Cue the usual suspects now to have a pop at me for having an opinion but if those fans look deep down inside, you now you have some doubts as well only mine are bigger and more open.
You're greatly exaggerating that for 'dramatic' effect. Everyone on the planet knows that was a horrendous game changing error from a man with vast experience, not his first either. What should Di Canio do, pretend there was nothing wrong with it. O'Shea knows it was terrible and the manager is surely entitled to agree with him. We all have doubts & fears ...... more open ffs,
There was no need to tell the world what happens it the dressing room. Its an unwritten law in all walks of life and if your manager, or anyone's ,manager was going public to tell the world that they are having a pop at you is that really going to endear you to him? JOS did not deserve that public pop at all and in 9 years under SAF he will have NEVER seen that happen to any player. If JOS is so poor and makes constant errors then why make him captain? Why not play Roberge and Diakite and just drop him? We ALL know it was a mistake, the player more so than anyone so why not just have a siege mentality and come out fighting together? Di Canio will soon divide this dressing room quicker than Moses parted the red sea imo and that fractious management style will bite all of our backsides if the club struggle again this season.
I hope your thoughts are completely wrong and ellis has complete faith in his man. ffs you should be one of those jurno`s who gets there knifes out at any opportunity and stick in as far as you can .
Yes he has. The manager didn't savage him, he was simply stating a fact that everyone knows. John O'Shea appears to get on well with the manager ....... besides, we're not talking about a pre-school group, these are tough football players who don't burst into tears easily,
You've hit the nail right on the head mate!!!!!!!!! He thinks he is a journalist and this is his very own column .....
