Is it true that Saints have always lost when Webb has been the ref? That says it all. Best ref in the country? **** off.
It is, actually: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/fc-southampton/schiedsrichterdetail/verein_180_318.html EDIT: Not always losing, just never winning.
I know we haven't won a game when Webb was the ref, not sure about always losing though. Still ridiculous considering he's been in charge 8 times!
Thanks, so we've drawn a couple, but never won. I can certainly recall some bloody awful decisions in the Sunderland & QPR games last season. Goes without saying, that handball from Lallana's shot, if it was at Old Trafford, 100% nailed on penalty with Howard Webb giving a complimentary blow job of all the United players as an extra bonus.
Possibly one of the worst officiating performances I've ever seen. They got so much wrong, both ways.
It was a definite penalty and given that he was looking right at it, I can only imagine that he decided that Johnson was protecting his face, which apparently is allowed?!? But a definite penalty. Having said that, though, there was a strong penalty shout for us when Chambers handled RvW's header and then another for the foul on Snodgrass in extra time. So I'd say that was at least evens. Ultimately, though, don't think Howard is a good ref but at least he keeps the game flowing which is more than can be said for some of the jobsworths in black... A relief of a win for us, and just about deserved because penalty and Lallana's first shot aside i didnt feel you threatened, but it doesn't change my mind that you'll be a couple of places above us come May, and possibly close to Europe if your new signings bed in early.
The fonte incident was definitely a penalty, it would have been very harsh to give one against chambers though
Yeah I agree with this. I'd also add that Turner smashed Osvaldo in the face with his elbow, regardless of whether that was on purpose or not it should have been a red card.
No it doesn't. I'm also not completely ruling it out being an accident, Turner is a dirty prick (as most CBs are) and if you look at the incident it could easily be argued Turner knew what he was doing.
If you want to see another of Webb's recent classics then watch the Champions League semi final again between Madrid and Dortmund.
