Football fans supposedly have short memories - or is it long memories, we can't quite remember? Well, anyway, ED wonders if Chelsea supporters will welcome their new striker with jeers for something he said in the past about the club. After all, former interim boss Rafael Benitez was vilified upon arrival for comments he had made years back. The Spaniard, who led the Blues to Europa League glory last year, famously said six years ago: "Chelsea is a big club with fantastic players, every manager wants to coach a such a big team. "But I would never take that job, in respect for my former team at Liverpool, no matter what. For me there is only club in England, and thatâs Liverpool." And in 2007, before one of many epic European clashes between Liverpool and Chelsea, Benitez made a comment that infuriated the Blues fans. "We donât need to give away flags for our fans to wave â our supporters are always there with their hearts, and that is all we need. Itâs the passion of the fans that helps to win matches â not flags." Benitez, of course, went on to join Chelsea as a temporary manager and enjoyed a fair degree of success given the circumstances. So then to new Chelsea signing, former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o. The Cameroon star caused a furore of his own when he made disparaging remarks about Chelsea ahead of a big Champions League clash while at the Catalan giants. "I'd rather sell groundnuts in my village than to play for a pathetic team like Chelsea," Eto'o famously said. After moving to Stamford Bridge from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, Eto'o said: "It wasn't a hard decision. I saw the qualities Chelsea have, and I was very happy with Jose Mourinho before, so when the opportunity came, I was very happy to take it. "I am very happy to be here," he added. So, is it time for Chelsea supporters to forgive and forget what has gone before and embrace Eto'o, or do they still have reason to dislike their new signing? .. Would he even hear if they did boo him? He's so old he must be as deaf as Wenger is blind. More likely they will make him a plastic banner with the Shankly Gates on We love you dribbles
LOVELY QUOTE: Samuel Eto'o in 2004 "I would rather be selling ground-nuts in my village than to play for a pathetic team like Chelsea"
Great use of MS Word. Personally I'd have gone for more word art and make it really stand out like a mid 90's slideshow.
I can almost hear a Wenger like French accent from Drogs with this post: "Errrr. no, I did not hear that" Whatever helps you sleep at night Drogs...
Nope, I've just heard it's fake. If it's real I'll be happy to give him **** for it, unless he apologises of course, which incidentally is what Rafa the bell end should've done!
Rafa the bell who won you a cup and got you back into CL? Nevermind you have chief cheerleader Mourinhio there now having to persuade your fans to make some noise No end to the mans ability
I find it hilarious you lot defend him with all your might whenever he comes under scrutiny or criticism. I am very grateful for what he did last season, even applauded him for it as he was under a lot of pressure in a bit of a ****e situation and for that fair play to the bloke. But he will forever be a bell end, to me, and a lot of other football fans.
You have a very weird sense of humour then Even applauded him? How good of you, you should let your fellow fans know how to applaud your club on the pitch I think most football fans dont have an opinion either way tbh, despite what you think Chelsea are not the centre of the universe
1 - what does humour have to do with it? 2 - applaud doesn't have to mean literally clapping like a seal DR, 'praised' may have been a better word though. 3 - where did I even mention it has anything to do with Chelsea? has nothing to do with football fans thinking Rafa is a knob.
1, You said you found it hilarious we defend him? 2, Again, must have been hard for you to get behind your club and not pile on misery for someone in a hard position. Says a lot about your supporters 3, To my knowledge most football fans dont think of Rafa like that. Like I say most dont have an opinion, hence me stating you're not the centre of the universe
1 - it's a figure of speech, meaning it's weird that you do so 2 - I actually agree there, I was against the constant booing in the stadium, did us no good at all and I praised Rafa on getting through it 3 - the two have absolutely no relevence. what does me thinking Chelsea are the centre of the Universe have to do with football fans thinking Rafa is a knob? He did a perfectly good job of coming across a complete bell end during his tenure at Liverpool.
