Massive no thanks to Bueno. His name is unfortunately not indicative of his ability. I don't think we'll sign anyone.
I thought it was: looks really good in the wrapper, but once you've tasted a little, you realise that was the whole thing and there is nothing to it Happened the only time I had a Bueno!
Sorry guys I didn't mean this particular year.......It has been bandied about that our aim is for Europe in the next couple of years. I was just wandering what your views would be re the top 4 eventually and how many more players of say Osvaldo's or Ramirez and so on we would need to realistically compete for this spot. I would agree we have some excellent youngsters coming through but my understanding is that Cortese wants competing for those spots in the not too distant future.
Im happy with the players we have but if add another who will improve and strengthen the squad I wouldnt complain Moses would be a good
I agree with this. I think Arsenal are a bloody shambles. They are losing their elevated status by grains. Experts from the outside can see it but controlling Arsenal execs seem unaware that they are losing ground. Spurs have spotted it because they are going all out to improve after losing Bale (it seems). So much so that they may well end up overshooting into third or perhaps even second place. Arsenal may end up with loads of money, in the short term, but they'll end up losing overall.
I think two more for us. An attacking midfielder/winger and a CB/FB utility player from Europe that half of this board haven't heard of before to provide cover in case of injuries.
Players on the squad that could fit in a top 4 side in three years: Wanyama, Shaw. Players that have a solid chance: Schneiderlin, JWP, Lovren, Ramirez Players with at least a non-minimal chance and who would at least be good backups: Lallana, Clyne, Chambers. Maybe Mayuka or Rodriguez? So yeah, I think we'd need to bring in a minimum of 10 players, probably more like 15. There's a chance 1 or 2 players still in u-21 might make it. The rest will have to be bought in on transfer.
We may sign 1 squad player who can cover a couple of positions but hoping we can get rid of Sharp, Martin, Lee, Forte and Barnard, need those players off the wage bill if their not going to play a part in our upcoming season.
I think Spurs are a good yardstick to see what you need to break into the top 4 and maintain that. They have spent good money on players at the near top end of the market over the last few years improving their squad/team but have only got into the top 4 once. This window they have spent over 100m so it will be interesting to see where they end up. From where we are now I would say we would need to spend another 100-150 mil on top of what Spurs have to get into the Top 4.
That depends on if you mean from today/right now. If so I'd agree. What if you looked at our team in 4/5 years time and the potential development of some of our players. JayRod is 22/23 so he'd be 26/27; Clyne would be 26/27; Shaw 22/23; Lovren 27/28; Morgan 28/29; Cork 28/29; Adam 29/30; Victor 26/27; JWP 22/23 Right now these are looking pretty good in this division and I'm not saying all of them but some of those can continue to get better. Add to this the signing of other currently not so well know players who may also be on the beef of developing and you never know. I think the % success rate of transfers will be more key. We are obviously someway off now, but the next few years will be very interesting.
Based on Guly and Hooiveld have a convenient 'illness' just before deadline day, I wonder whether they are off and we are in the market for players in their positions. Hopefully not, I think both are good cover.
Yes I was thinking from where we are now. It would be great for all of our younger players to reach their potential and I am sure some will get there before others. However with injuries etc not all players do reach their potential. I guess another thing to bear in mind is the actual speed of their development and if Cortese/Pochettino are willing to wait for them to reach the potential. If we anticipate that they may reach their full potential in 5 years but Cortese wants Top 4 in 3 then they maybe sold (at a profit) and replaced with a standard of player that is already at that standard. It is going to be a really interesting few years in a good way.
I like both of these players, however they are not really at the level of progression. "Cover" is not on the agenda really; if a better option becomes available and we get them, then great. Both would be missed from the dressing room I presume, but Pochettino has to manage that.
