www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/23876605 This is not a rugby forum, but Welsh Internationals/Lions Tours, etc., are occasionally discussed/debated as and when the need arises. So,it is with great sadness then that I post the news of the death of one of Wales' greatest sportsmen. The word "Legend" is often thrown around and used to describe the most bland of underachievers, but there was never anything bland about Cliff Morgan, and he achieved much greatness in his chosen sport, not to mention his foray into broadcasting, and the media in general. The word "Legend" sat very comfortably, and modestly, on his shoulders. Being a Welshman,he was good with words, both written and spoken, and if you need proof of the latter, check out the u tube video of Gareth Edwards' try for The Barbarians against the New Zealand All Blacks in Cardiff,1973. Some described his commentary as "poetry in motion",indeed,Morgan could well have made a living as a poet.
Proper old school gentleman and played in an era where pride in your playing for your club and country far outweighed any financial reward RIP Cliff
True unassuming gentleman- always modest and had time for us when we met him as kids- from a lost era unfortunately, RIP
Judging by the plaudits being expressed on the comments section of the BBC article,he was universally admired.
Great player, great broadcaster, exceptionally wonderful person. Will be sadly missed. RIP Mr Morgan.
I for won remember him in his playing days he was one of the best and a true gent off the field. R I P Cliff
Very sad news, indeed! I can't help thinking that if he had been English, he would have received the knighthood that he deserved. RIP
A wonderful tribute just on BBC Wales. A Welsh great. RIP, he now enjoys commentating on Heaven's finest with Mr McClaren. Great lines from him on the tribute... "I come from a land where the sun never sets. Thats because God cannot trust the buggers when it gets dark" "Rugby. A game of opera, of ballet and of murder"
