Id go 4-4-2 and bring Connor if for the disgraced Sess:- -----------Westy---------- Celut---Oshea--Diakite----Jack Jonno---Cabal---Lars/Gards----Giacc ---------Altid----Connor-----
Cabral was awful the other night, the only problem is that we have no one else who's better to come in. Worrying times
He was also man of the match against Fulham and argubly our best player pre season. We cant judge him after one bad game!
Fletcher was named as a sub on tuesday so he must be fit but I would start Connor then switch strikers with about 25 mins to go. I would have Mavrias instead of Larsson/Gards, but Teesidemakem's team is about the same as mine in a must win game.
OP spot on and I would also have Larsson over Gardner, if we play 4-4-2 its going to be tough as I think Palace play 4-5-1 so we could see less possession and thats where we will struggle without a CM that can keep the ball.
Paolo Di Canio has backed Jozy Altidore and fit-again Steven Fletcher to forge a prolific partnership. Scotland international hitman Fletcher this week returned to the Sunderland teamsheet for the first time since damaging ankle ligaments in March, although he was an unused substitute in the Black Cats’ 4-2 Capital One Cup win over MK Dons on Tuesday. That gave last season’s top scorer a close-up view as £6m summer signing Altidore opened his account for the Wearsiders against the League One side. The news Fletcher is on the verge of a return to action is good news for boss Di Canio, who is looking forward to pairing his two first-choice frontmen together for the first time. The Italian head coach said: “Fletcher is a player who gives us another option. “Jozy and him are the two players in the squad who are natural goalscorers. “The others, yes, everyone can score - Ji Dong-won, Connor Wickham and Stephane Sessegnon - but they [Fletcher and Altidore] are the players who score goals on instinct, players who smell the goal. “So he [Fletcher] is important to us. “You need players who can spot mistakes in the box and capitalise on them. “We will be putting a lot of balls into the box this season and we need players like Fletcher, like Jozy, who will thrive on them. “Together they can be a very good partnership I feel. “So, yes, I am looking forward to it because in my opinion Fletcher is intelligent, he understands what I ask.” Fletcher is unlikely to be asked to start at Crystal Palace on Saturday, but he could find himself included on the bench again at Selhurst Park. Di Canio made six changes against MK Dons, but will revert to his strongest line-up at Palace which will see Keiren Westwood and Emanuele Giaccherini restored to the side. Centre-back Modibo Diakite is also expected to resume his partnership with John O’Shea after being rested for the cup game just days after making his debut at Southampton. Di Canio explained that decision by pointing out the former Lazio man is still easing his way into action after missing most of last season through injury and then picking up a hamstring problem soon after arriving in England. Di Canio added: “You can imagine what it is like after one year without a real match. “Hoever, there was a reason why I played him in a tough game at Southampton. “He did very well, but it will take him a few games. “It is clear what he brings to the team. “He is not the tallest one, but he jumps a lot and he has time on the ball which is crucial.” Sunderland have been drawn at home to League One Peterborough in the third round of the Capital One Cup. The tie will be played the week beginning September 23.
-----------Westy---------- Celut---Oshea--Robrge----Jack Jonno---Cabal---Lars/Gards----Giacc ---------Altid----Connor----- I'd go like this, provided JoS picks up Chackmah(Spelling) and Roberge drops onto the post for corners and Celustka plays the role as centre back. The problem with JoS and Diakite is neither are great passers.
.....................westwood.................... Celustka...oshea......diakite.....colback ..................cabral...larsson................. Johnson.........wickham..........giacherini ........................altidore.......................... Can be a 4-5-1 if they are packing the midfield or even switch to 4-4-2 if we are on the front foot. I think have Wickham play it will take the heat off Jozy to win everything in the air and he can focus more on getting on the end on flick ons and through balls. Season in the balance for me, we must win this game.
Sick of the ball in the air me like mate. Unless it's from the byline, defenders have no problem with em. All our Forwards are stronger with the ball at their feet. No problem with your set up fella, I just want the ball on the deck desperately.
I'm going to humour you and give you a serious response. Mavrias won't be playing as he isn't match fit. Hence the reason he didn't start against MK Dons. I also think it would be incredibly unfair to start an unfit 19 year old in what would be his first premier league appearance in what you said was a must win game
Chamack would latch onto Roberge once he realised he's not the strongest (on the deck or in the air).
I'd play Westwood Celustka - Diakité - JOS - Colback Johnson - Cabral - Seb - Giaccherini Altidore - Wickham
It's in the pessimists rule book mate ...... 1 bad game and it's worrying times, 2 bad games and he should be peddled . 1 good game and it was a fluke, 2 good games and 'Liverpool are after him' .......... some people are desperate for summat to worry about tbh.
You mean like the, soon to be a Freeman of Sunderland, disgraced Niall Quinn .......... that kind of thing?
I just think people who want Sessegnon gone have jumped on this. If it had been Fletch I doubt he would have been labelled a disgrace tbh.
I see what you mean. but hardly comparable for me. Quinn wasn't directly affiliated with us at the time. Also, the thing with Sess is the Bardo thing. Consistency needs to be shown. Not double standards because one is a star player. Anyway, Going off topic, so I'll shut up about it.
