Has anyone seen City play Everton in a League game before?

Yes Somerton Park, it never was the best stadium in the world

 

The FA Cup game was in 1977.
The League Cup 2 legged games were in 1979.
So haven't played them for 34 years.

That's not the biggest gap. City haven't played Man Utd since 194-75 season.

As I am sure all of us 50 year olds remember

 

I think if it was described as a slum it would be doing a dis-service to slums.

Saw some great games there though, beating Sheffield Wednesday (then Div 1) in the cup 3 - 2 in 1964, losing a cup replay 3 - 2 to Southampton (Div 1) in 1968 when a young Mick Channon got their winner, Carl Zeiss Jena in 1981, Cardiff and Pompey at the end of the 82/83 season when both Cardiff and Pompey got promoted at Newport's expense. It was rumoured at the time that the Newport players were told to make sure they didn't get promoted to the old Div. 2 as the club couldn't afford to play at a higher level. That was the start of the slippery slope for them.

Over the years from when I started going there in 1963 the team were used to getting smashed home and away. So on a wet Tuesday night it was amazing to see the reaction from a crowd of little more than 1,500 when County actually gave another team a good beating. Didn't happen often though.
