Okay lads, trying not to get shot down straight away on this post, so hear me out.

Last night was a mixture of the best and worst part of being a Sunderland fan. 2-0 down to a league one side, only to score 4 times in the last 15, its a funny old game. For 75 minutes we were pretty damn awful, especially in the middle of the park, i very rarely heard cabral or vaughans name mentions after the first goal. Our midfield duo were out classed and out played by an old veteran and former wonder kid of the game, Alan smith, this hugely worries me.

Now i'm not gonna say that lee's the answer to our problems, far from it knowing we need two CM's that can create chances for the team :cough: KI sung yueng :cough: and maybe another yank in the form of bradly, but as a 1 dimensional CDM who 9/10 can stop a team dicking over us? Yes cattermole is that man. He is not skillful, he is not clinical (as if i'd need to tell you), but he can break up play and take a member of the opposition better than anyone else we have in the team.

People need to stop with the whole 'Well if he can sort out temper, or his card problem' etc because he won't. Players like Lee have a reputation that will never go away, and are prepared to make the bad tackles to stop the opposition on the counter, or breaking away. Yes he has been booked before for being a Knob, or doing something completely stupid, and as the 'main man' or former captain of the team that's unacceptable, but as an average squad player? He should be able to get away with, or be able to be out for 2/3 games during a suspension during the season. Every team needs a player who is prepared to get booked and stop the opposition whatever it takes.

Cattermoles influence last night would have been huge, MK DON's wouldn't have had a field day in the middle of the park and it would have allowed cabral or any other CM to push further up, eliminating the need for one of our strikers to drop deeper leaving the other isolated.

I for one hope that Cattermole does get his chance under PDC and stays at the club. I also hope we get two more CM's and a left back, although its looking unlikely. Love him or hate him, he fills a role at our club that no other player has yet to take over, as a ****ing bastard players hate to come up against.

Cattermole is a good player when match fit, the problem is when he is just getting into his stride he is either injured or banned for 3 games.

I wouldn't threat, Paolo has already said Catts will be part of his plans should he still be at the club. He's a welcome option but wouldn't solve our problems in the slightest.

A CM with a killer forward pass? He definitely not what PDC is looking for. He provides good competition for the DM spot but he solves nothing, unless of course Cabral is a failed signing after one bad game?

To be fair I was talking about the defensive midfielder spot. As I have seen him play i am aware he is not the attack minded midfielder we are after. Other than red cards (which to be fair are annoying and potentially cost points) I dont recall many bad games. Gives his all, gets round pitch, breaks up attacks, gives ball to more attack minded colleagues. Simples.

I am quite happy to see him stay and play but we need someone creative in the middle. I would personally like to see Giacc there in a three with catts and Cabral. Sess on the left and an attacking LB bought in.

I'm a catts fan mate, 100% behind him. He's not what we're looking for though.

Not seen enough of Cabral to say who's better. The bloke has a new league to adapt to. But as a Catt's fan his services are much appreciated imo and I think he will get his chance.

Personally, I think the second Paolo sees him at his first team best, he'll fall in love with him as a player.

You'll not get shot down from me matey.

I'd love Catts to stay and be part of this new revolution. I rate the lads desire and passion and not forgetting he's a pretty decent player too.

Keep them both. Competition is good and it's gives good cover in a vital position. We have to remember also that alot of players are still moving/settling into the area/country and playing them every game is senseless at this stage.

Think Catts and Cabral would make a decent combination. Its for Johnson Sessegnon and Giacherini to be creative. Cabral looks like he can spray it about and get forward and he'd be able to do this more with Catts sitting deep and protecting the back four.

im still hoping we bring in a more creative cm though to play in the two.

I'm still of the opinion that Catts is probably our best midfielder, which isn't hard i know. The problem is he's very, very injury prone. I reckon Catts and Cabral would be a good midfield pairing. Talking about Cabral, i'd noticed there's been numerous comments made during and since the MK Dons game that he may have a bit of the headless chicken about him. I thought he was alright against the Dons and have been impressed with him in general. I'm hoping we've got a good player on our hands.

Na. We need a playmaker to partner Cabral/Catts (Cabral looks like he'll be the starter) looks like Ki will be that man
