After comments like this, you have the cheek to tell me "that I missed your point entirely". Personally I think you are showing a lack of respect to West Brom. They are a good side and will be tough to beat on their own patch - even if we play well.
Besides WBA loosing Lukaku and Swansea getting Bony which obviously makes a difference on paper I believe we are at a similar level as them and in that light they are small favorites to win at home. I also dont think we were that terrible in our first two games as some are indicating but I would be dissapointed if we dont get at least a point against WBA. But the heat the players and manager is getting from here this early in the season is a bit too dramatic and narrow-minded if you ask me.
Quite right RJ - here are some stats to show how we compare to our first seasons in the Prem: First Year in The Premiership (47pts) Man U (H) - 0 Spurs (A) - 0 WBA (A) - 3 3/9 Second Year in the Premiership (46pts) Man U (H) - 1 Spurs (A) - 0 WBA (A) - 0 1/9 Third Year in the Premiership Man U (H) - 0 Spurs (A) - 0 WBA (A) - 0/6
And though we have better players this season than the last and the one before that so have everybody else(maybe not Newcastle).
Not showing a lack of respect at all. Just not willing to disrespect our lads, or role over and admit that it's all toooooo difficult for us. If we as a club / squad / supporters do not have sufficient belief in who and what we are, that we can go into WBA and get a result then it's time to call it a day. Really!?! Why bother to play if you do not believe you can win. Why not just save the money on the bus fare and not bother to show up at all; **** we won't even have to wash the kit. Instead all the players can take a day off and go shopping in the market with their missus. Dilli can drink his beer down at the pier and everybody else can watch the ****ing ponies on tv.
Yankee does have a point. If we don't believe that we can win then there is no point playing. However, I would like to think that the players do believe that they can win on the weekend
I'm always positive and may have blinkered view on what the team could achieve in a game ,thats not to say I'm not realistic but what is important is as long as the manager/ players believe in their own abilities then what we as supporters think have little bearing on any outcome other than physically supporting them from the stands .
I'm sure everybody believes we have a very good chance of winning most just dont regard it as complete and utter failure and disaster if we dont.
As I have said in previous posts, to paraphrase .... it's not a complete failure if we lose provided we apply ourselves 100% and are beaten by a WBA team playing better. However, if we do not get at least a point against WBA, we will have 0 from 8% of the season. We then have 2 weeks of disruption for internationals and come back against Liverpool. A loss there would be 0 points out of 10.5% of the season. Sitting in the basement of the table it's going to get tougher because the pressure to perform may become a negative unto itself. Once we break the duck we can go from strength to strength, but a house is built one brick at a time .... I'd really like to see that first brick getting laid. We should be able to go into WBA and get a result. We have the team to do it.
You actually said "we have no business being in the league". But nevertheless the change is welcome .
I would like to go on record as saying, if we don't win at West Brom on Sunday, I will be very dissapointed, as I see WBA as a team we can easily compete with, and a team we should be able to get a result against, so for me this should be our first 3 points!................
Don't read much do you ... almost as blind as Saturday's ref. In post 75 you wrote ... ... which I think is a clear statement that we are not good enough to beat WBA. In the context of competition, to "turn over" or getting "turned over" is to give away or surrender. In post 76, I responded ... .... which is me taking exception to the notion that we would get "turned over" at WBA, and that if we did, we might has well chuck it in. I then spent a lot of time trying to explain that far from being "turned over" at WBA, we should go in there hunting for the win. First, because we're good enough. Second, because we need to. I don't ever expect to lose any match in which we compete ... otherwise what's the point of playing. This is the strongest squad we have had in 30 years. This squad shouldn't act or think it is second best to anyone, on any day, on any field. Otherwise at this level, where differences are marginal in every dimension you wish to measure, a sliver of doubt will or could make all the difference.
I get the points Yankee was trying to make, I think PGF has maybe taken them slightly out of context, it is fair to think 3pts is possible against a team we regard as our rival, while yankee emphisizes the need for a win I would be happy with a point, different strokes for different folks . I feel his passion and the will for the Swans to do well and get something they are well capable of getting, I don't see that as being disrespectful to WBA, we should go into most games thinking about getting something. I think PGF also has a point though, he has probably sensed a lot of over confidence these last few weeks and is correct in that going there to win wont be easy, both make valid points for me so they shouldn't be too harsh with each other on this, they don't seem to be a million miles away in their debate
Im already sick of hysterical over reaction from our fans and some of the comments above are atrocious. "We only sing when we're winning has never been more apt"
See? Even DPJ gets it right once in a while. This is a game we should be targetting. I'll be amazed if WBA are anywhere near as successful as they were last season. Anelka has some personal difficulties & may retire and they will have problems in scoring goals imo. Time for Bony to step up for us methinks. A loss up there and I really will start to worry.
I'd be more worried about our performance than the actual result , although as important as it is .if the commitment or effort drops off at this stage of the season then we do have real concerns
