Not me. Saw the game when we last time played them [in the League Cup in 78 or possibly 79?] but never in the League before. Just cannot wait especially after Sunday's incredible scenes; but it'll be a tougher fixture IMO. Martinez will know now exactly how to break City down, and starve City of possession. A draw would be excellent result.
You were closer with the Year Ninian 1977 but I had the cup right .....unless we did play them a year later in the league cup I'm trying to upload a photo off my desktop but it aint happening any tips on getting a pic to upload
Turk - click on the "insert image" icon, and when it says "from computer" just browse and find wherever your pic is - maybe saved in your documents? Then just click on "upload files" - you should be ok. ....and no Nin - never seen Everton in a League game.
I was there the last time we played them in the top flight. 0-0 and I'd be happy with that again, but after Sunday's result we could hope for better.
Nope can't recall watching us play them in a league game mind you I have problems remembering last week!
It was the last game of the season and we needed to beat them by a stupid number of goals to retain our place in the first division. Everton were later reported to have taken performance enhancing drugs. This is an extract from the report: “Everton have long been one of the top clubs in the English association football league.................. And it was done, according to a national newspaper investigation, with the help of Benzedrine. Word spread after Everton's win that the drug had been involved. The newspaper investigated, cited where the reporter believed it had come from, and quoted the goalkeeper, Albert Dunlop, as saying: "I cannot remember how they first came to be offered to us. But they were distributed in the dressing rooms. We didn't have to take them but most of the players did. The tablets were mostly white but once or twice they were yellow. They were used through the 1961–62 season and the championship season which followed it.
I haven't as i started watching the city from 1990 onwards.....looking forward to Saturday although i hope we don't come down to earth with a bang. Going to be very tough and after what happened Sunday Everton are going to have even more incentive to not take us lightly. Again the fans have a huge part play.
Ah yes I remember those days well, still have a scarf from then tucked away somewhere, one for each wrist.
If I did see them I have no recollection of it, too young to remember the last time we played them in the league, but possible I did see them. They done us badly last time so a turnaround is owed.
Still got the ticket for that FA Cup match...30p to get into the bob bank/grangend as you could walk between both in those days, crowd went bananas as Tony Evans put us 1 up, however Bob Latchford scored the winner for Everton in a 2 - 1 defeat.
I saw Newport play Everton in the League Cup once, early 80's I think. Does that count? I think Everton won 2 - 0 but Newport got a draw up there in the second leg. I recall they had a bit of a useful side, Southall, Ratcliffe, McMahon, Sharp and Johnson to name a few.
I remember that match also, lots of Cardiff fans there, as our match with Millwall was called off due to a frozen pitch, there were also more than a few Millwall fans there, including the infamous Harry the dog. The players must have got a bit confused that day, I am sure Aldridge scored a goal for Cewnty that day but Everton went on to win. I do remember it was effing freezing.
Good memory isaw, just checked on the interwebythingy and they played in the F A Cup the same season, in January so quite likely to be a bit chilly. It was a draw 1 - 1 but Everton won the replay 2 - 1. I must have been there also but can't recall it. Probably got a programme in the attic. The 2 sides played again in the League Cup in 1986 with Everton winning 9 - 1 on aggregate. Newport were on the slippery slope to oblivion then.
