Nice one Roller. Don was the last piece of the jigsaw for me, made a very good team great.

Stan was better than Dalglish, from someone who played with them both - priceless.

One of our unsung hero's. As Tramore said above, always found time and space and was the engine that drove the glory boy's in the team. When he had the ball it was rarely wasted.

I would like to say I was just a lad when he played for us but I would be lying.

I loved Don Masson but saying Stan was better than Dalglish is a bit OTT. I watched kenny play from his days in Possil, to playing for Celtic's 2nd X1, then the first team before moving to Liverpool. They were slightly different players, Kenny was a strong physical player with a great touch and scored lots of important goals. Stan was more of a runner with the ball and a great finisher. IMHO I couldn't say that Stan was better though he was the best player I ever saw in a QPR shirt.

I remember that goal against Sunderland... Real class ... Shame that stan was a bit of a w..... When you met him :(

    Sorry but true. :(

No need to apologise. I was lucky enough never to meet Stan (I'm sure that would shatter the illusion) just watched him play for 8 or 9 years. And if a professional footballer who played with both preferred Stan to the sour faced, unintelligible Glaswegian, thats good enough for me. Not that it matters, Stan played for QPR, thats enough, these who was better than who and 'would they make it today' arguments are fun but pointless. Kenny was a great player, but Stan was the man who kept me entertained.

I'm sure we can agree that he was better than Keegan though.

For me Stan was a class above Dagleish, so were a few others. I always thought Dagleish got away with murder in the box, strong he was and good technically but holding the ball in the box he continually fouled defenders to give himself space and got away with it. Defenders needed protecting from him back then!

Don't get me wrong...... I LOVED Stan as a player ....... When he dropped his shoulder the whole crowd swayed :) but IMHO Dalglish was better overall but he didn't play for the R'sss.

Stan & Dalglish had more skill than keegan but he done well with what he had. I always disliked keegan cos he scored 2 goals against Wolves in the 76/77 season stopping us winning the league. I was at WW for that match, Kindon scored or Wolves before half time but Liverpool won 3-1. The worst drive home to London I ever had :(

How has this changed from a Don Masson thread into a Bowles v Dalglish one?

Anyway, Masson was a very good midfielder. He also was an excellent set piece taker.

If anyone on here is ever in the Nottingham area, here is a link to a b&b Don runs with his wife.
