I cannot believe the amount of dubious calls by todays ref surely they can't all be just bad judgement can they ?
I hate moaning about refs, but have to agree here...shocker. To be fair, Townsend should have had a pen in the first half, but that does NOT mean the referee should feel the need to "even things up" - stats say we committed 15 fouls. I can think of maybe 5, the ref was poor.
I've believed for a long time that football should look at sighting (siting?) of players. Any player diving the way the likes of Townsend did today should face a ban and the team a points deduction. This is a Spurs tactic - play for fouls and play to get other players carded. Horrible. Give me an honest bunch of bruisers any day. That is no excuse for the way we played (again) today.
100% agree here. when the most mild mannered bloke in world football(Laudrup) is throwing his arms up in dis belief then we know something aint right! the ref basically nullified our defensive work with dishing out early cards, all we could do was tread carefully after that . It was one of the most biased performances ive seen in a while....well, I say a while but us at old Trafford was exactly the same and that was just a few months ago !! Point is they hate that we are hanging around the prem league now don't they, its not a love story of the media anymore its just little old Swansea embarrassing the established teams ,so time to send us packing back to the small time by the looks of things
"I've believed for a long time that football should look at sighting (siting?) of players. " Citing? But it's a fair point. I hate having a go at refs but bloody hell!
Spurs were the better side, no question about that but I agree that the ref was an absolute tool! They should have had a penalty in the first half instead of the free kick as it was definitely inside the box, so I suppose that evened out, but we were getting cards for incidents that he wasn't even giving free kicks for against them. shocking
As I've said before ,it's a small pool and the new ones coming in are not up to scratch ,bearing in mind that at this level they're paid professionals but what hope have you got when they appear not know the laws of the game (WBA away last year for example)
The point here, is why we haven't got anyone "handling the ref". All the top teams do it, and we have got to get streetwise
I'm not a believer that things even out over the season, the bigger clubs always get the contentious decisions. Our last pen again, Sinclair against Man U wasn't it!!! Then again it would help if our wingers attacked a defence then we may get a sodding pen.
Going back to the original point I think the FA have stopped short of citing players in terms of diving because it is such a grey area. It can seem obvious to us that a player dives but when it comes to a ban for players, expensive legal teams will get involved and to prove 100% that a player deliberatley dived would become a minefield. We've all heard the Bale-defenders, saying that the fact he is so fast it only takes a tiny bit of contact to knock him down , players can claim they tripped, etc, it would basically just create more dishonesty in my opinion.
