According to the Daily Fail this morning Ipswich have rejected a bid from Crystal Palace for Left Back Aaron Cresswell. It then goes onto say that Cresswell is rated at £3 Million so perhaps the bid received fell well below that valuation. If this is true then perhaps we should be heartened by the fact that we are not going to be an easy push over when it comes to transfer bids from other clubs. If any one comes up with anything over £4 Million then I would take the money so long as we use ALL the funds to bring in a desperately needed Striker and attacking midfielder. With only 2 weeks left before the close of this window I am pretty sure that there will be plenty of twists and turns to come! Just looking at the link to this on TWTD and it mentions that the bid was apparently lodged back in June! So why make it public now? The cynic in me says that the club wants to invite higher bids before the window closes! To be honest I find it hard to believe that Cressy will be a Town player for too much longer. I just hope that this young Mings fella is ready to step up!
I think he's worth closer to 6mil in this seasons market. Last year I would have said 2-3mill but with the new TV deal we have seen the prem teams splash out some serious money, Southampton's just spent 15mill on a player! So if we sell Cressy then lets get a good fee. My understanding is that we don't need to sell
Changed your mind again JWM a few weeks ago you said you wouldn't sell for less than £10 million!!! I'm pretty confident we'll keep hold of him, mainly because only PL teams are likely to go for him and I think most of them probably think they'd have to pay a fair wack to get him (because he's English), they could probably get as good a players from abroad for alot less money and would probably prefer to spend that money on other positions, fullbacks rarely go for alot of money. I don't think they'll be many twists and turns JWM, I'm fairly confident we're pretty much done in the transfer window unless we get injuries.
" I just hope that this young Mings fella is ready to step up! " Based on what I saw at Reading, Mings put in the single handed worst left back performance I can recall since Karbiassoon playing LB in the 04/05 season. That wasn't his fault, he was a striker! Playing away at Reading was quite literally playing with 10 men. It gave the centre backs/ and Tabb an absolutely impossible task to perform. If Cresswell does go, we would absolutely 100% require a new LB. Make no mistakes about it. I think Mings COULD be good in time, however, it's one hell of a jump from Chippenham Town, two leagues below the Conference to the Championship. For me, he would drastically benefit from a loan to a League 2/ Conference side. I hope he comes good, and will support anyone in a Town shirt (bar Michael Chopra! )
From what I gather of the situation Cressy has a sensible head on his shoulders and probably (again assuming) realises that another season with us is the best thing for him. Of the clubs that were 'interested' it seems that only Villa & Palace (and possibly Fulham) bid or even considered bidding so although he's on a few radars no one has yet to consider him a #1 target etc. If/when he does leave I imagine he'll be looking to go to an established Prem team rather than a Palace or Hull etc. and knows that a good season with us will lead to a) we get promoted or b) the interest in him gets greater and can move to a club possibly in the mould of an Everton, WBA or Swansea etc.
I will miss your little digs PTC. To be honest guys this is probably going to be my last post on here for quite a while as I am just bored of the whole shabang after 10 years! I have enjoyed my time on here and on the old 606 but I think it is now time to move on. Enjoy the season guys its been a blast!
You obviously didn't realise Mings split open his knee but carried on playing the entire game!! He has been out for 4 weeks because of that injury. Good or bad I don't think you can judge him on that one game. Besides he was always going to be one for the future - as you say he came from non-league football so don't write him off before he has even been developed (ala Tommy Smith). His attitude to carry on despite his injury speaks wonders for the guy to me, you can learn to play better football but you can't learn determination and drive! I do agree we would need another LB, but Mings can't be written off because of one game!
I can only assume he split his knee open within the first twenty seconds of the game then, because he was absolutely appalling throughout. What alarms me if that's the case, is he didn't suddenly struggle etc, or it wasn't noticeable he was any worse, as he was horrific from the get go. Fair play to the lad for continuing though and away at Reading, that is going to be one of the hardest games he'll face all season - the experience will have done him no harm whatsoever. Also, if the injury was that bad, surely Mick would have taken him off, put Smith LB, and Berra CB. Hopefully he comes back soon, but personally I don't want him anywhere near the first team this season. Out on loan, learning his trade, sure
Not sure the exact time but certainly within the first 20mins. I also forgot to mention he had tonsillitis too so was a doubt even before the game! Mick tried to take him off but Mings said he wanted to carry on, I imagine the adrenalin had a big part to play in that decision though! Anyway yes I agree he has plenty of learning to do, but I thought labelling him as the worst left back in the history of the team was a bit harsh on a young lad who had a gutsy first performance
