Never took to the Wessie bastard as I assumed he was dyed-in-the-woollyback Dolanite who spouted chuffin eck platitudes in the Press.

But he seems to have carved out a decent enough career as manager at Carlisle.

Greg Abbott has always been very supportive of City. God guy for me and gave his all in a poor Dolan side.

Heard an interview he did some years ago when local radio goes regional on a night and he said then we were a sleeping giant.

Carlisle managed a draw tonight away at Colchester, who are currently in the play offs, had the lead for the majority of the game, wonder what's gone wrong up there, disastrous start this season for them.

Leaking goals but without a fair number of first teamers out injured (incl Mike Edwards I think)

Good point for them tonight though. Least it stopped the rot.

I suppose if we’ve been in the ‘signing Sunderland’s cast offs phase’, Abbott was signed during our ‘signing Bratfud’s cast offs phase’ – although I think we actually got him via the non-league. As an aside, during this phase we also signed Craig Lawford (whom I`ll remember the most for the late winner at Shrews). Craig, like most of our signings back then, proved to be **** after looking initially good - despite scoring 5/6 goals in pre-season and looked great till he got a contract) but I do recall Jeff Lee (and maybe Dolan) saying he was the most gifted youngster they'd ever seen.

Further aside, wonder what happened to David Jones from this period? Think I heard he was in clink not long after he left us but there was no internet to validate back then.

Anyway, I suppose Abbott was sort of an ersatz Ashbee. Great goal v Burnley, remember him missing an open net from about 5 yards at Witton; and…I also recall he was in tears in the carpark after being told he was being released after that low, low, low, low point v Bradford (again) in ’96 (or 95?)

It was only a year ago some parts of the media linked Abbott with us.

I remember seeing Paul Hunter playing for us (makeweight in Deano Aberdeen transfer) and thinking this kid's supposed to be a Scotland U21 larker but he's the slowest forward I've ever seen plus he's short as ****.

Decent lad but like so many from 95 onwards, a terrible footballer.

I'm pretty sure sure Paul Hunter had been and gone before Deano left us.

You mixing him up with some other no mark?

I always thought Hunter came from East Fife or a someone similar. I didn't think He was any part of Windass deal. East Fife always sticks in my mind, so will undoubtedly be totally wrong.

It's alright, you're not going mad, he did come to us from East Fife.

Yep he was from East Fife in 1990 ish .

Made Gareth Roberts look like a greyhound.

In my City all time slow team I've got Hesford in goal

    Hunter up front

Gareth Roberts with Chris Galvin in midfield

    Wayne Brown in defence.

Didn't he spend some time out injured after tripping over a dog?
