Sunday 25th August 4.00pm at White Hart Lane

Well firstly I have no team news as AVB and ML wouldn't answer their phones to me.

I have however found out some interesting facts about Spurs,

Tottenham Hotspur became the only non-league team to win the FA Cup (in 1901) since the formation of the Football League in 1888.

The club's Latin motto is Audere est Facere, meaning "to dare is to do".

Boys from Hotspur Cricket Club formed Hotspur FC in 1882 so that they could play a sport during the winter. The name was changed to Tottenham Hotspur in 1884 to avoid any confusion with another club London Hotspur.

Steve Perryman holds the appearance record for Spurs, having played 854 games for the club between 1969 and 1986, of which 655 were league matches.

Jimmy Greaves holds the club goal scoring record with 266 goals in 380 league, cup and European appearances.

That's all the sensible stuff for our more sensible posters people like Ivor and err um Swim now the stuff we really need to know, Dilli's important bits.

Spurs will be the ones wearing white and because of this we will be the ones wearing the pickled onion monster munch kit. All the statisticians will tell you we have never won at Spurs, we however know that they are all knobs because we have lyrics in our song that say otherwise. Gareth Bale will not be playing Sunday, don't ask me how I know but trust me Dilli has taken care of it and he will not play. I may release him after the game.
If you haven't been to Spurs it's well worth a visit, the ground is totally enclosed and you get a good view of the action in the away end. The atmosphere is excellent and the Spurs fans really do get behind their team. You don't get any anti Welsh bollocks either which is an added advantage. The only place nearby you can get pint is in the Haringey Irish club which is about a 5 minute walk to the ground on Pretoria Rd. it's about a 2 minute walk from White Hart Lane Station.
The only drawback going to Spurs is the stewards, they are just about the worst stewards in the country. I can only guess that their day jobs are traffic wardens, they threaten to throw you out for the slightest thing even celebrating a goal. Don't let this put you off going though because as I've said the Spurs fans are a really good bunch and its hassle free before, during and after the game from them.

This is definitely one of the better days out in the Premier League.

If I get any team news I will let you know but it's unlikely because I am travelling to the game leaving at 8.30am and hope to be in the pub by no later than 12.30 even allowing for a stop. Then I intend getting pissed, meeting up with Glamexile and leaving you all to it.

(This is better than PGF's "Discuss" effort isn't it?)

Yes, it is a lot better than discuss. Was never a big fan of "laisses faire". I have another problem though: Kickoff at 4: how is it with your GMT? My FC København kicks off at 5 pm CET, I will have to record the Swansea game won't I?

I've got Swim as being sensible, in hindsight that may be a mistake

Actually, we beat Spurs at White Hart Lane in Sept of 1978 in a League Cup replay, forget which round. Glorious victory. Brutal walk back to the train station after the game - longest walk of my life.

Just proves what I said in the op about statisticians,

You should have heard the cockerel cry when the Swans scored number 3

It was the 2nd round replay after a 2-2 at the Vetch

Spot on there Dai, my abiding memory of the game at the Vetch was Tommy Smith flattening Ardiles

    As the song goes
"In the League Cup there came Tottenham
who were lucky to draw the game
and therefore for the replay we went to
    the White Hart Lane
no-one give us a chance with Ardilies and company
but you should have heard the Cockerel cry
when the Swans scored number 3
so let's go down to Swansea Bay and hear
    The North Bank roar
and follow Tosh's super Swans wherever they may go
the skill, the flair, the fluency will lead us to
    where we're bound
and once again all Europe will hear
    the Swansea City sound"

I was lucky enough to be at both games - magical nights!
Who would have thought we will have eventually got to Europe 25 years later playing the sort of stuff we are playing :)

An immortal tackle if ever there was one. I can still remember them peeling Ardiles off the grass and trying to stand him up straight ... there was "mud" on his shorts.

I was at both games too, wasn't it 1981, the year before we went up to Division one? I remember Allan Curtis played a blinder at White Hart Lane and a spectacular goal.

A fast penetrating Tottenham side against a deeper lying counter attacking Swansea side. We will probably see a lot of running down our flanks by Chadli, Lennon or Townsend so our full backs better be ready and focus more on defending than going forward. Canas or Britton? Whoever is gonna have a busy night so I'll start with Britton and his routine.

Key player: Jonjo Shelvey. We need those penetrating long passes high and low to set off the counters.

    Result: 2-2

I'm sure we were promoted from division 3 that season, then again maybe I'm going senile in my old age
