What makes you think we wouldn't have replaced him? Every player we've signed this summer has been a replacement: Migs for Reina Aspas for Downing Alberto for Shelvey Toure for Carragher Cissokho for Robinson (both loans)
similar pattern to last Summer, expect to see Pacheco and Ass on loans soon if they already haven't yet, we will send players out but fail to get players in. all the players we have signed apart from Migs was probably intended to be squad players, but some have turned out better than expected.
But I also think all the players that left were all expected too. We have already sent Suso and Robinson out on loan too but with no European football to worry about, I think the squad player will get reserve team football so I can see a few youngsters being loaned out.
I'd ask all of those complaining about our transfer policy, what would you have us do? If we try for a player and he goes elsewhere, so be it. Throwing stupid money about is a major reason we're in this hole and to keep digging would be madness. I understand the frustration at the apparent slow pace of recovery, but my anger would be aimed at the club if they foolishly took us back to the days of brinkmanship that brought us into this mess.
It's a shame that us losing out on Willian has somewhat overshadowed our positive performance at the weekend. I was disappointed that we lost out on him but after realising that LFC were the ones who didn't push for the deal indicates that we have other targets who provide better value for money. We're learning from our mistakes.
I wouldn't have cared about any of the THFC signings before the transfer window hypemachine got going... and IBWT can tell you how much I know football after the spanking I gave him in FF this week despite his double-gamer
No, throwing stupid money on CRAP players is why we're in this hole. We're not going to get top 4 without spending a bit of money, we're trying to do an Arsenal at the moment, making a great team from cheap under the radar players (coutinho). But they're hard to come by and I think (certainly with the amounts all the PL clubs are spending this summer) we need to spend some money on immediate quick-win improvements on our first team.
Spending money you don't have is bad business regardless of who you spend it on. Unless you have a definite business model where borrowing it is going to pay off down the line- but that's a different argument. Also, how can we be sure that the recent targets were going to bring us success? This is wishful thinking because there are no guarantees. How many of us can honestly say we knew a great deal about Willian or Mykhitaryan before this window and that they will guarantee us significant improvement? There's always a high level of risk in buying a player, and we've taken too many of those risks lately- we're not a moneybags club who can just write them off as loose change. This faith in a big-name signing (and who actually qualifies as this?) to bring us success is mis-placed, imo. As I said, we're going round in circles here. We're just all going to have to settle into our respective camps on this and wait to see what happens. In the end, those in charge will make their own decisions, regardless of how much noise we make on here.
If Suarez had gone I would have said Muriel. But to be honest there is no value in buying marquee signings it is much better to buy potential and convert into a marquee player imo. If any player was to come in I would like it to be Turan. Class player and most importantly has expressed a desire to play for us in the past. Only players who want to play for the badge and not he money. (Except Suarez.) Also would like to see Ever Banega to come in and offer competition to Lucas. i think alot of people are blowing out of proportion Tottenhams signings. Willian - Not even there yet and has been playing for a long time in a weak league. Played for brazil only twice in 3-4 years Soldado - Good player, but at his peak now and not what Torres or Villa were a few years ago at all. Paulinho - Is quality admittedly Chadli - Could be a Babel Capoue - Good DM. Alot of people are getting carried away that Tottenham have put together some sort of title competing side. Im far from convinced yet, but do agree that Paulinho will be worth every penny.
Maybe we're waiting to sign this feller:- http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6d/Macaca_fuscata.jpg
Right my turn, thanks for ur comments. I'd like us to get turan or Honda. But feel they are a but lightweight. Can't believe we've not gone for the guy from west ham plays centre mid, used to play for Wigan and apparently was going to sign for Kenny! Can't remember his name tho, bad news about Coates injury as means we won't be selling skrtel. I still rate Tom ince and would welcome him back but we have ibe nd sterling so that ain't gonna happen. What about erikson or someone like di Maria
