Even if McLaren is a better manager, I wouldn't want to change right now. I hate change. But if McLaren is involved throughout the whole season then I wouldn't mind him taking over at the end because that would be a nice transition. When is McLaren's contract finished, by the way? It was only a three month one, right? I wonder if they'll renew it.
We cant afford it but Id be delighted if he left, I dont think we will have to sack him should be go up because hed have either been poached by a PL club or hed retire on a high. As you say, Id prefer McLaren to him, thats how far I think hes setting us back.
From what I can see he is trying to get the balance right. Young ambitous players on longer contracts and experienced ones on 1-2 year deals. I think the board and Rednapp are working to a plan based on the here and now with one eye on the future. Im sure TF has learnt by his mistakes and love or loathe Rednapp he can attract players to our club which I doubt the McClarens and his like could. Im going on what I see not what I think. No one knows where he will be next year all I feel is the Board are back in charge and are doing a good job. Ive enjoyed the start and some people on here really need to wait and see where we are in 10 games. 7 points from 9 solid start and you have to concede that at least we have some team spirit this time
I am not sure how you have come up with that criteria Flyer. Clearly Harry is trying to build a team spirit and a team to get promoted this season. As you say his personal ambitions (and certainly the time frame) will be different from the clubs. However it seems that every club that gets promoted then has to make many more changes than 2 or 3. Even the ones that have done it a lot better than us.
Well he was agreeing with another post stating that 2 or 3 changes will be needed, Im saying we are screwed no matter what because Redknapp doesnt care because he wont be here either way.
The idea that HR is on some sort of deliberate sabotage of QPR just sounds ridiculous, in my opinion. It's quite easy to say that he's overloading the squad with 30+ players but he's also signed two young, hungry players in Austin and Simpson. Most of the players aged thirty and over were brought in prior to HR's tenure so its seems pretty strange to be ranting and raving over the likes of Derry, Hill, Zamora etc when the current manager had nothing to do with their acquisition.
Flippin' heck. There is a lot of bullshit "opinion" out there. The first thing that Harry and TF appear to be doing is changing as much as they can with the ethos of the club. Build a proper team, with a proper working mentality and team spirit and you are part way there. All this bullsh*t about new players not wanting to work with Harry is just that ... bullshit. Players have not been keen on the little ol' Rs for a while now. How do you think we ended up with misfits, has-beens and overly expensive foreign players, both young and old? First priority: Get the club as a whole back on track. Get the youth coming through. Have older, determined experienced players in the team to start with. Players that can be trusted to hold the fort for a year or two. Start winning. Get the players and the fans feeling good about themselves again. Second priority: Get back into the Premier League. There are few good younger players who would be willing to come to one of the (apparently) most dysfunctional clubs in the league - except for the money (and we don't necessarily want them). In 12/24 months it should be a different story.
Thank you, Eamon, a great antidote to Flyerism. Not that I disagree with Flyer about the need for young blood - but I just don't see that Harry and TF has done much wrong since the start of preseason.
Flyer, me ol' mucka, I fear you've spent too long with the paranoid Saints fans that continue to believe Redknapp was a Pompey plant sent in with a mission to ruin them. This seems blatantly not the case with QPR, where there appears to have been very sensible work conducted over the summer clearing out all the hangers-on, high earners and under-achievers, whilst bringing in players with the right work ethic and proven ability at this level, on what at first sight are appropriate and manageable contracts. The noises from the camp are already immeasurably better than was the case last season, and (so far) the results have followed. I'd still like you to come up with a list of the right sort of (specific) players that Redknapp should be recruiting, as its an easy game simply to throw rocks at the names actually being linked to the club. I don't think too many of us would argue with you particular brand of idealism, Flyer, and have us sign half a dozen 22-26 year olds in various positions, all of whom having the "right stuff" to win promotion and stay there. But in the real world I'm not sure it is as easy as that.
Whilst I am fed up with HR speaking out about our transfer targets, and in the process making us look stupid when they go elsewhere, I think him and TF have done a great job this summer (well providing we get a few more players in before the deadline anyway). We have got our team spirit back, which is not an easy thing to get once you have lost it, we have shipped out almost all of the players who caused problems last year, and have brought in replacements who are experienced, hungry, and with something to prove. However, imo we badly lack in wingers, and strikers, and could do with another CB. So if those positions are not filled in the next week then I will be worried.
Yes. We can't afford a new team every year. So give the pot to someone who genuinely has an eye for unproven talent.
In my mind Warnock for what he did is a hero, unfortunately partly because of the politics going on at the time with the Goons we'll never know whether he could be a success. If Harry get's us promoted no doubt about it he'll also be an RRRs hero + I don't really get all the vitriol directed in his direction & really should be given at least until Jan with his squad to assess how things are panning out.
