Finally a part-timer gets a bowl and takes a wicket. Australia racked up 527 at Old Trafford with barely an over from a part-timer and nearly 400 here before one gets a bowl. How Root has bowled about 5 overs since Lords when he took 3/15 in the first 2 tests. Cook needs to bowl part-timers a hell of a lot more. So does Clarke. How Smith hasn't bowled more in the series is also baffling.

So Trott gets a wicket. Gets 3 overs only (1 after taking a wicket) and now we're back to Broad (1-94) and Woakes (0-75). Interesting captaincy to say the least....................Looks like Australia are starting to tee off now so they might throw a wicket away anyway.

Hmm Broad's just gone for 16 off that over <laugh>
Woakes has his first test wicket. Caught on the boundary edge. Looks like Australia will be all out soon (or declaring) taking this many risks to get quick runs

So much for Aussies collapsing after 4-5 wickets...shall move onto my next idea that our antipodean cousins only have one good innings in them. :) We haven't been as good as some thought and the Aussies have been better than some thought and we still beat them 3.0 (at the moment). Should make the series in Australia interesting.

So much for my theory that the Australians collapse after 4-5 wickets...I'll move onto my next theory, they only have one good innings in them. :) We have played less well than we thought in this series and they have played better than we thought, but we still won the series. Will be interesting in the Ashes next year.

If we can get to the close without losing a wicket, I'll be happy. Or surprised. One of the two.

My series prediction was 3-1. The rain might have a big say in this game though.

He should have bowled again today. England were stupid to not give him at least a couple of overs. They were getting pummeled anyway

What I know about cricket, I could write on the back of a *** packet. Anyway, Donald Bradman scored his last first class century against Scotland about half a mile from my gaff in Aberdeen in 1948. He was quite good apparently.

What puzzles me is that you have lights to allow play to continue, but the players still have to come off despite the lights. Makes you wonder how T20 day/night matches ever get played!!

They have a white ball for T20 and 50 over day/night games Fran, makes it a lot easier to see! Don't forget, it's not just the safety of the batsmen that is considered, the fielders have to be able to see the ball coming at them at high speed as well.

Apparently the dark red of the ball makes it harder to pick up under lights than the white ball is. I've heard players mention something to do with the ball merging with its shadow but I've never really understood that. It's why the authorities are continuously working on developing bright orange, pink and yellow cricket balls.
