With the end of the window approaching and many clubs starting to hint at being done, who has made a signing that shows remarkably poor judgement? Which Brazillian will fail to settle and then go to Russia in January? Who signed that young, unknown prospect for too much money, too soon? In short, which signing (any club) do you think will pan out to be a remarkable waste of money? My money's on Fernandinho at 30m. Edit: OH! And Remy!
Well the up-front fee is £4.5m, if he is a flop they won't be paying anywhere near £9m. There are so many factors in whether a player is successful or not that it's pretty hard to know who will succeed and who won't, I think most clubs have bought pretty well actually and there aren't too many who I look at and think "he won't make it". I guess it's inevitable that there will be a few who don't live up to their billing for whatever reason, but few of them really jump out at me as "flops waiting to happen". As Qwerty says though, Altidore is quite a strange one and Sunderland have probably gambled more with their signings than any other team.
I think I was in various states of travel when that happened. Had no idea they agreed terms that high. I wonder what the 4.5m in add ons is dependent on? Staying up? Appearances?
Where did Remy go? Zaha to man u- the weight of expectation will be too high and he will leave for a mid table club within 2 seasons. Which is where he should have gone anyway.
Newcastle on loan, they're surely taking the bulk of his massive wages while he has a ****ed up ankle(?) and a pending rape trial.
Carroll will get 10 goals if he has a very 'good' season. This is a flop considering his price and hype but to me this is his maximum achievable level. Whether he is a flop or just playing to his ltd potential depends on your standpoint. Sadly Riskier will need to get 15+ to prove he is worthy of a call up tp Brazil.
Loan I think. Either way, probably not much of a gamble. A lot of people laugh at Roma's willingness to by Gervinho, but nobody stops to consider why his former manager at Lille, Rudy Garcia, might be so keen to have him back. Could it be he knows more about the player than you do?
