___________Harper Rosenior McShane Faye Dudgeon ______Boyd Bruce Meyler ____McLean Fryatt Jahraldo-Martin youngsters & reserves on the bench... Thats a proper league cup team
He will, I don't see SB switching much against Norwich after 1 game, the only thing I think he'll change, bar injuries, is put Hudds in for either Koren or Meyler.
As most of us will want to see a fringe side, it depends entirely on who starts on Saturday. If Graham is dropped for Norwich but Sagbo scores a hat-trick we'll all want Graham to play at Orient as he obviously won't play the next league game. But if the roles were reversed we'd want Sagbo to play in the cup. In other words this thread is pointless until after Norwich.
Margetts has been released I think? And the thread is hardly pointless. You could consider all threads pointless when you think about it. In fact, just shut the forum down.
There are plenty of Sundeerland fans that were sad to see Meyler go. Much more-so than Elmo, who they saw as a busted flush in the premier league despite salivating over him when he first signed (confidence is key with him I think - especially under pressure). I live near "Jarra" and have many friends who are "Sulnan" BTW. It was only a minority who actively hounded Bruce, and Graham was always met with denigration according to the more mature of their bretheren. When they failed, minority voices got louder as is so-often the way in many areas of public life (see our own Phil Brown and Paul Duffen - the unrecognised key to that debate revolves around Russel Bartlett and his "boom" dependent finances). The fact they were Geordies coloured the opinion of their vocal minority whom never really gave them a reasonable level of support - they actively tried to destroy them, with some success - such are the politics of North-East rivalry I can absolutely see how the "agent Bruce" tag still rankles with our gaffer after all this time as his professionalism was called into question - and if you look at their balance-sheet, it is easy to see how there was a slip down the rankings once the budget deficit was called in. Most Mackem knobheads don't consider this though.... The more sober Sunderland fans ( which is far from the dickhead majority) actually remember the form which got Brucey an extended contract after his initial 18 months in the job, but identify injuries, cost-cutting and their inability to retain a goalscorer (bent) as significant factor in Steve's demise - though tactical intransigence also is a recurrent theme; a charge he has demonstrably impugned at City . Yes, most eventually supported his replacement at Sunderland but that is mostly because they couldn't see a way forward as the fan/finance/form situation stood at the time. How much was circumstantial, how much was down to Bruce himself? A self-fulfilling prophecy from the naysayers coupled with injuries and financial circumstance led to his dismissal rather than ability, according those with a more expansive outlook amongst them. Meyler is the type of vital workhorse player that is easy to target. It saddens me to see us picking scape-goats already. If it was up to City fans at the time, then "Eeyoor" Andy Payton would've been "donkeyed" out before he ever made a career for himself - the same goes amongst some in recent times with Ashbee, Dawson, McShane and sadly "crab" Andrews and Jon Walters. Chris Waddle was another one who suffered fan derision due to his style of play before he became a legend up north. There are plenty of examples of this. Don't stick your neck out sonny, you might find you have to reel it in more quickly than is possible. In footballing terms - Koren may not have the rounded nature to compete against the very best in a hard-working mid-field for 90 mins at old-trafford, stamford Bridge and the like. However, anyone who disputes his quality from 20 yards not to get a goal as fresh legs against a tiring mediocre outfit is someone who is quick to write off a potential match-winner at any level. I'm also someone who saw Ricketts as flawed, but his attacking flair seemed to gloss over his positional weaknesses in the eyes of many. It isn't a co-incidence however that once he became a regular starter in the Bolton back-four their premiership status began to look shaky. Great servant to the club - but not one that really convinced at the top in his priority role.
The released players were Sonny Bradley, Lewis Clarkson, Mark Cullen, Andy Dawson, Jamie Devitt, Kealan Dillon, Daniel East, Daniel Emerton, Francis McCaffrey, Paul McKenna, Seyi Olofinjana and Jay Simpson. I wouldn't mind seeing Margetts on the bench for this one, he's was scoring for fun last season.
Ah I always got him and McCaffrey mixed up. Isn't Danny Chambers supposed to be the next Lewis Clarkson? In terms of goalscoring for the development squad, not in terms of being let go.
I'm a bit out of touch to be honest, I didn't get to any reserve games last season and I only went to one youth game.
Margetts is injured. I doubt many of the development will be considered for this game haven't started the season very well.

With the likes of McShane, Rosie, Bruce, Fryatt, Dudge, Prossie unlikely to get much if any game time. I would expect they will make up the core of our cup team.
