I think we need 11 players....

A goalie. Well, we have 2 or even 3 that look up to the job.

    A back four.

2 on the outside. The rule here is to be hard and able to tackle, plus whippet quick so that if they win a tackle and the ball stays in, they can catch up with it and run forward with it OR catch up with it and kick it to our next layer.....But I digress. We need to look at the remaining 2 of the back 4.

Not only are these guys tall and not frightened of having to hit the ball with their actual HEAD, but one should be prepared to hurt people while the other should be able to kick the ball to someone more than 20 yards away WHO WEARS THE SAME SHIRT. Hopefully forwards - that is - away from the Goalie.

Now we come to the next layer of players. I like to call this the "midfield" because it is between the "defence" (the back four) and the "attack" (the front two. (Dont be scared or switch off readers. We haven't talked about the "attack" yet). The midfield needs; players who can be quick and jink and dance past the opposition. The optimum number of these are two. One on the left side (or, "wing"); the other on the right. It also needs one player who can play pretty passes to the "forwards" and one who is very good at stopping the opponents pretty midfielder from doing the same. In the "midfield", size doesn't really matter.

Now we come to the Kings of the game.... The FOR-WARDS. These are the people we look to to win us our games and score the goals to do this. In an ideal world they could both (we only have 2 spaces left, children), but we should be very happy with one who isn't frightened to jump and use their head to hit the ball and another who is dead clever at kicking the ball forwards into the net.

    It could look like this..........

    Westwood

    Rose
    O'Shea
    Brown
New guy who played well on Saturday

    Johnson
    Cabral
    SESS
    Italian I cant spell

    Altidore
    Fletcher.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Re: Sessegnon at cm. PDC has made it clear that he wants a playmaker to partner Cabral. Sessegnon is not a playmaker.

Think Xavi, Pirlo, Iniesta even Huddlestone (who is actually someone we could have signed) the mould of those players is something we'll be looking for. Sess is far from that mould so I wouldn't expect him to play there at all

I like the look of this , would get over run against the top 5-6.
Altidore to hold it up for Fletch (playing a bit deeper then we saw him last year) with 1 from 3 (italian, sess and johnson ) hanging fire a bit to assist cabral.

Like ive just said on another thread, Sess wouldnt be creative. His games all about running at the opposition, and causing havoc in their half. Playing him in central mid would be defeating the object he'd constantly be out of position leaving Cabal on his lonesome. We need sombody who can thread a defence splitting pass and spray it out to the wingers!

Aye not ideal, but would surely be better then Seb. With the current players we have that imo be the best possible line up.

well maybe Gardner, could do the job

I don't understand how you can highlight exactly what we need and then pick someone there who doesn't have the attributes to do the job. From your description I'd have Sess on the wing perhaps but not in Centre Mid.

Great team yes, and maybe Sess could do a job in midfield, worth a punt.....but there is a glaring hole in it....... we are not going to sign Rose!!!! Get over it and move on :-/
