The 25-year-old Londoner, who is on the available list at Loftus Road, has been training with Wolves this week.

Head coach Kenny Jackett has watched the midfielder closely and is expected to make a final decision on the former West Ham graduate.

Kevin Thelwell, head of football development, said: “Hogan has been training with us for a few days now.

“We will spend another couple of days having a look at him and then take a decision as to whether to sign him or not.

“He’s a wide player or attacking midfielder we have known about for a while and we wanted to have a close look at him.

“As for a fee, we haven’t got to a stage where we have discussed that yet.”

Having been capped by England at four age group levels up to and including under-19s and won a Championship title winner’s medal in 2010-11, Archway-born Ephraim has a good pedigree.

After signing for QPR from West Ham for a reported fee of £800,000 in 2007, he played in 28 games in Rangers’ race to the Premier League.

He has made a total of 142 League appearances, 108 of them for QPR.

Ephraim has also had loan spells at Colchester, Leeds, Charlton, Bristol City and last season, Toronto in the MLS.

Meanwhile, Wolves have dismissed speculation that they are chasing Roda JC left-winger Guus Hupperts, 21. Thelwell and Jackett made a flying visit to Holland recently but their target was not Hupperts.

“I’m aware of him but he’s not one we’re even discussing,” said Thelwell. “There’s nothing in that.”

Meanwhile, Jackett admitted he faces a selection dilemma ahead of Friday’s televised visit of Crawley.

New-boy Kevin McDonald is ready for his full debut but Jackett must balance that against changing a winning team.

“He’s ready to play but the other side of it is the same team has just won back-to-back games,” said Jackett.

Never understood the animosity of some towards him. We lack wingers, he is proven at this level and is a good age. His performances in the promotion season were generally good and his (only?) PL cameo at Everton he did well too.

Hes not proven, hes terrible at this level. I have no idea how he stayed this long at the club. Hes L1 at best.

But he wasn't terrible when he last got a run i.e. Before we bought Smith. He was a key part of the good start we made.

I have nothing against him but I have to agree with you. He's really lightweight.

He was usually invisible hiding out on the wings, letting himself get marked out of the game so the crowd wouldnt have a go. I once turned up right on 3pm and didnt know he was in the team, I only realised at 60mins when he first got involved.

I dont hate the bloke, he seems ok but I dont want him anywhere near the team. How many managers have we had that thought the same?

why did we bring him back from Canada and give him a new deal then?
if they thought that little of him, why not release him 6 months ago?

Harsh as ever Flyer, at least your consistent mate.

No one is saying that he should stay (are they?), but "terrible" is harsh. He did keep a proven Championship performer in Tommy Smith out of the team for 10 matches after he signed for us in 2010. I'd suggest that Neil Warnock didn't agree with you.

That said it is definitely overtime for him to move on, it is a mystery as to why we kept retaining his services.

Good luck to him if this is true.

So if he signs can we expect him to become in integral part of a league winning side that then leapfrogs over us back into the PL...

...yeah, maybe not, but I fully expect him to score against us the next time we meet. It's written in the stars...

Bit harsh on Hogan here guys. He's got pace and can dribble with ball. A good squad player at this level to have as a back-up winger. Away from home he was a good outlet to play on the counter-attack in the season we went up. Would be good to hold onto in case injuries strike our wide men

The last goal Hogan scored (away vs Doncaster - think it was his last, anyway) was the last time I saw Rangers win live. Been to a few away games since but never a win! Hoping things change this weekend at Bolton.

Sadly yes, god knows how he is/was our longest serving player who never actually played, his agent deserves a medal.

No no sorry, this is complete bollox. Why are you slagging him off? The guy tries and is alright when he comes on. He is happy to be loaned out multiple times to keep match sharp to be called on when needed, doesn't complain. Never really put a foot wrong and don't give me crap about his agent because he's hardly one of the top paid players compared to everyone else. Do you lot just slag off every player we have or our linked to?

You think he's crap. You think that we should be buying proven experienced players and slag off anyone else that gts mentioned. Have you not forgotten we are in the championship and after our last two seasons have become a complete joke in the transfer market. The only reason any good players came to us in the first place is because we paid over the odds and to a lesser extent the clubs location.

Get f*cking real, always so negative, got to sit next to a bunch of f*cking moaners every week, only ever pipe up to slag off or put down

Hogan is the perfect player to bring on IMO ... yet not given a chance and I agree has never let this club down. He is a bright and quick footballer and sweats for the shirt and we send him on dancing with wolves. And so the fickle will lead the messes into the fire ... Carlos come and sit with me I have some smarties
