Now this really has me thinking. We know Ross is a streaky player, and he goes on runs of fat or lean. It will happen, its just a matter of how long a goalscoring run or firing blanks lasts. Will he contribute at key stages in the season? Maybe he will under McD.
No question Ross has started this season well. He really is putting himself about, and that goal on Saturday was awesome. So is he turning on the style because he can 1) force a new, improved contract extension at Leeds, or 2) get a fat contract at Boro, or whoever else wants him? We've seen this before, players in the shop window raise their game because an inviting deal is available and they can improve their negotiating position.
It is a normal thing, asking for a contract extension when your club refuses to sell you. Because the club you would have joined was offering a better wage to get you to leave, it automatically follows that you ask your club to increase your wages for staying. That is fine, but are you worth it?
I'm not trying to be cynical here, as I want Ross to stay. I'm just trying to think about all the angles available. The timing of Ross asking for an extension has me just a bit concerned. Happy with him saying he wants to stay, but asking for more money while Boro are still trying to sign him ... well, its almost as if he's saying to GFH "give me a new deal or I may go". I hope that's not the case, but a few weeks ago he was talking about his "wee man" and having to provide etc etc.
This sh1t always happens when unwelcome bids are made for your players, and if Ross stays and GFH can't afford to give him a new contract, I hope it doesn't affect his morale and performances.
