Totally agree. Korens best days are behind him and his role now should be late impact sub. With Thudd and Livermore in CMF and Brady and Elmo on the wings we gave as good as we got yesterday. Davies is a natural captain. Talks it up, leads by example, and gives no quarter.
Ashbee is the most influential player in our history, was first choice captain for 2 promotions and STILL people spelt it Ashby!!
I don't think the Koran should be captain, or the Bible, or the Talmud. On footballing matters, we need to calm down. It's one game. If Koren is **** against teams we stand a chance of beating, fair enough.
I remember last year when we weren't sure if Hobbs or Koren was the captain, Burnsey asked Bruce about it, and he said something along the lines of him expecting everyone to behave like a captain. He didn't put much stock in who gets the Armband.
If I recall, I think Koren was given the captaincy in the first place because we were trying to keep him amid a bid from Leicester last summer.
It really shouldnt matter. I think the year Inter won the Champions League they had something like 8 national captains in their first choice XI. Whoever wears the armband doesnt matter, they should all put their bodies on the line.
Why do people get all uptight about name changing but are quite happy to boot out the man who has held the captaincy for a few years now ! Talk about fickle fans ! Short memories for a few on here.
No player is bigger than the club ffs. Koren has only held it for a season, and only due to Hobbs' injury as well.
True. I read a quote somewhere which gave the impression that the arrival of Thud and Livers inspired him. So - he doesn't seem like captain material.
In Italy they don't obviously don't care whose captain, they give it to the oldest player on the pitch. We had a superb captain in Ashbee, but i reckon he would have led the team in the same way, whether he wore the arm band or not. I don't understand why Koran(sic) is getting grief for yesterday,he played well.
Being a captain is about leadership qualities and the knack of spurring your team-mates on when they need lifting. How good the player is shouldn't matter. I still can't understand why everyone's slating Koren still, I thought we'd all established he's an attacker, not a defender and has an uncanny ability to win a game with a moment of magic whether that be a pass or a 30 yard belter. Koren shouldn't be used in away games because we need to be more defensive away from home and I think either Huddlestone or Davies should be given captaincy purely for Premier League experience and quality of communication (i.e. good English). Knowing what to say, and organising the players is a massively important part of grinding out results in this League and can be the difference between staying up and going down.
When we were really under the cosh yesterday Sky showed a view from behind our goal, with Chelsea midfield streeming forward Koren could be seen ten yards behind them " walking". He's had his day, time for someone younger with more committment.
Koren and Meyler were both pants imo and should not be considered. I definitely think Huddleston should be captain, he bossed the field when he came on and the gulf in class was clear to see. I wouldn't be disappointed with Davies either.
i don't think Koren should ever have been captain as he is not vocal enough.. i wouldn't rule him out the 1st team picture just yet tho, its worrying Huddlestone stands out so much just simply because he can pass accurately first time and not need the extra touches most the others do, says a lot about many of our squad so Korens talents shouldn't be dismissed just yet IMO.
Koren is not vocal enough and also is not going to be a regular starter this season. It seems obvious from SB comments on Tiger player to Burnsey after the match that he wanted to give the players that had got us into the EPL a chance in the first game, hence I think why Koren was made captain. Going forward I would go for Curtis Davies as I like centre backs as captains as they see what is going on in front of them, and also he seems to be the most vocal of all the team on the pitch.
