    and I agree

Di Canio was quick to remind Sunderland owner Short that his financial outlay on players has been less than the club has spent in previous years.

“We have brought in 10 players, but there have been exits,” said the Black Cats boss.

“We have done very well, and have brought in players with much less money spent.

“But it would be perfect to have a left-back, two central midfield players, one winger and another striker. Five players

I can actually see this happening if we move on Vaughan, Bardsley, Cattermole and maybe Sessegnon. I have to say I would be gutted to lose Sess, yesterday he was far from his best but we know how good he can be and just look at the Asia Trophy game against Spurs and he ran the show. Games like yesterday when there is no space it is not ideal for him but you don't know the game will be like that until its underway. If Di Canio wants to move Sess on to bring in someone like Quagliarella then fair enough but I would be sad to see the little magician leave us.

I am very happy PDC has mentioned two and not one CM's!!! Cabral has really impressed me but Larsson needs to be on the bench. We need the man with the keys in ASAP but even then we are still light. What if Cabral or the cm playmaker get injured or suspended or both do? Who do we turn to? Larsson and El Hadji Ba? A 19 year old who has only played in the French second division. The lad looked good in pre season but we do not want to be throwing players like him in at the deep end and with Alfie already gone (unfortunately) and Catts and Vaughan on the way out a second is needed! People will mention Gards and Colback but IMO they are not good enough to be playing CM for us.

The ones we'll get regardless are: the winger, a lb and one cm

A second cm will depend on Vaughan and Catts leaving and of course the striker will depend on Sess leaving

I hope we just get the two cm's, a lb and a winger.
Sess is getting stick for playing badly vs Fulham, but with slow-thinking Seb as the cm (not an insult, a fact) all flair players are bound to struggle as you can get crowded out in an instant, which is why we need a ball playing midfielder who can play a pass in an instant. Not sure if anyone watched Barca's game earlier, but leading up to the first goal Levante had completely crowded the box leaving seemingly no space. Xavi was given the ball and without thinking twice he played an impeccable through ball to Fabregas who squared it for an open goal. There was one split second when Xavi could have played the pass and he did it, to perfection. That's the type of cm we need. Had we one of those vs Fulham we'd have tonked them

Sess is ****ing brilliant and I really hope we keep him

looks like De Ceglie and Mavrias will join this week. I really hope we can get the couple of CM's in and quickly

apparently we have been watching the so called Norwegian Modric who scored against Sweden last week and Manuel Fernandes

We defiantly need a proven CF before the window closes.

Altidore played very well on Saturday but we need competition.
Fletcher will be back soon but we need another forward to
Put pressure on them. Ji & wickham are not the answer.

Sorry but I couldn't disagree more

That would leave us with 6 striking options. Di can would only play 2 striking options at one time. We have more than enough strikers already

Only fletcher is proven in the prem mate.
I just think one more proven forward wouldn't hurt.

I would hate to think we had to rely on Ji and wickham if we get injuries

I can see where you're coming from mate but Sess is seen as a striking option, him and Fletch are both proven in the prem. Altidore will have no problems with the physicality of the premier league so he'll be fine.

As for Ji this season is make or break for him, he's come back from a very impressive end of season in Germany and Di Canio likes him. This is his year to prove his worth, his contract runs out at the end of this season

As for Wickham he is still very young so obviously we don't want to have to rely on him.

But we still have Fletcher, Sess, Altidore (who looked good on Saturday and will only get better) and Ji who can do a job upfront. Definitely not priority and any striker coming in would have to be because of one of the 5 mentioned leaving

Going to upset the apple cart here lads but we're all going on about how crucial and brilliant Sess is, 1st game of the season and he had a stinker???? **** me, if you can't motivate yourself for the opening HOME game of the season then there's something wrong with you.

Don't get me wrong i love sess and would be sorry to see his silky skills leave us, but for me, he's just too inconsistent. When he's good, he's brilliant and i love to watch him but we seem to carry him in more games than i've seen him perform.

There still seems to be plenty going on behind the scenes.

Business not finished yet by any means imo.

Sess was motivated, Fulham choked up the central areas, so Sess was restricted to movement on the wings. I thought Sess, Giac and AJ swapped roles very effectively throughout the game but no matter who was in the middle, they couldnt find space.

Fulham played for the goalless draw, then when they snatched a goal they sat even deeper.

Whoever plays the attacking CM role will do a lot better against teams that actually try to attack us.

I have to admit Dan that i wasn't there, just going on what i was told by others who were there. I'm expecting big things from him under PDC, he needs to find consistency in his game and then i think we'll see his true potential. We do need other options though, we can't rely on Sess alone. If he is snuffed out as it appears he was, we need a plan B.

Every player is at one stage unproven in the PL.

wasnt there myself, living in France and all that, saw it online.

I reckon against teams that park the bus, we could sacrifice a defender and stick another striker on the pitch.

    Wickham, Altidore

    Giac, Sess, AJ

    Cabral, Colback/larsson

    Roberge, O'Shea, Celustka

    Westwood

Having 2 strikers up front would help create space for Sess, Giac and AJ. Colback/Larsson could drop back to defend if/when needed.

Against good wingers we'd get torn apart. When the ball goes out wide the defender also goes leaving gaps in the middle. If you're expecting one of the defensive midfielders to drop out wide you leave massive holes in the middle and I don't think Sess will fancy dropping in the hole when this happens.

I just don't think 3-5-2 would work unfortunately.

No chance of back line of 3. PDC has been talking up the importance of attacking full-backs all summer.

Celustka was brought in to play rb and De Ceglie will be brought in to play lb

    Totally agree mate.

I just think we need to buy a forward who has played in the prem & scored goals.
