It's not necessarily the three most successful. There's a strong argument Brown should be up there and also Warren Joyce.
My first manager was Joyce, so i've seen 11 (If you include Russell, that is) My top 3: Steve Bruce Peter Taylor Warren Joyce
1. Cliff Britton (Brilliant attacking football). 2. Steve Bruce (could become a Legend) 3. Brian Horton (great Manager in the mid-1980s, the real force behind PB).
Cliff Britton Terry Neill Steve Bruce Phil Brown is not included because I did not attend any of his games when he was manager.
In my lifetime: Phil Brown Steve Bruce Peter Taylor Though given the last decade or so has been the club's most successful by a mile, this may as well be an all time list. Anybody who hasn't included Brown must be doing it out of spite, the season he got us promoted he changed the club forever, can you imagine Steve Bruce coming here if we'd never been in the Premiership? Brown was responsible for the single most momentous occasion in the club's history, not including him in your top three at least is ridiculous.
Steve Bruce. I just love the guys calm and relaxed manner, and i think he was unlucky he didn't win us the championship title last season, due to key injuries. Phil Brown. People seem to forget,it wasn't only our first (totally unexpected) promotion to the top flight, and the survival, but he kept us in the championship when he took over from Parky, against the odds. Warren Joyce. The great escape is one of my fondest memories, and it was a disgrace that he was sacked.
Steve Bruce would be my No.1 purely because of his charismatic, understanding, relaxed approach to everything. He is always honest, respects the fans, communicates well through the Media (Polar opposite to Nigel Pearson) and spends wisely. Phil Brown has to be within the Top 3 for what he achieved. Surviving relegation (at the expense of TWS) and then going up the next Season and staying up when nobody gave us a chance was an incredible feat and one that will never be forgotten. Peter Taylor purely because he created the foundations in which to build a more successful squad from. 19 years in the basement of English football and he gained us back-to-back Promotions (including signing Nick Barmby in League 1). He left us in a rather confusing way, but he left us as an established 2nd tier side rather than able to crumble at any point.
Don't know why your having such a hissy (to the extent that you've even started another thread). This thread is called Top Three City Managers and people can judge that using any criteria they want. As an example Brown not only got us promoted to the EPL but kept us up while Bruce has only done half the job so far. So using that criteria Brown should be above Bruce. However Brown was a liability to the profile of the club off the pitch with his embarrassing gaffes, his HT pitch team talk, his pink shoulder sweater, his pitch singing and his lust for the limelight. Compare that to the respect Bruce has in the game at the highest levels and the way good players want to come here to play for him instead of having to be bribed with huge contracts. The way he has acquitted himself with great dignity and modesty throughout his time here puts him way above Brown using that criteria. Just a couple of reminders: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opi...on-the-sacked-Tigers-chief-article356171.html http://www.ambernectar.org/blog/2010/03/the-definitive-phil-brown-hull-city-manager-2007-2009/
I never rated Peter Taylor, and i believe most managers would have achieved what he did at that time. We were the big spenders in those days. Then there was the freakish goal scoring exploits of Stuart Elliott, and the leadership qualities of Ian Ashbee. I can't forget Taylors refusal to sign Windass "I don't see Windass and Barmby working well together",ha we all know how that went. Edit: Oh and as for dropping Justin Whittle for Mark Joseph...
1 Bruce 2 Brown 3 Taylor There are of course others that have done well and served us proud such as Brian Norton, Andy (Jock) Davidson and others, but you only asked for three, equally there have been many poor ones, but thats for another thread. Let the good times roll
Some of that is true but we can't know how other managers would have done. We had Taylor and we were promoted twice consecutively. Give him is credit man.
