You seem surprised. It's a massive event, just most from the north are oblivious. It attracts these numbers every year, usually in smaller towns ... absolute carnage ensues. Iv gone and booked my hotel at Ennis Tradfest to make up for the travesty of missing the fleadh this year

Sligo next year. It will be back here soon I reckon.

I was sensible yesterday and went to the live show of ceilidh house and home after that. I'm not fit for two days in a row any more.

It was really good. The closing ceremony jobby was going to be for folk to just rock up to but they decided last night to make it an all ticket affair just to limit numbers.

Sligo, hmm could go either way. Best towns for the fleadh, that iv experienced, are Enniscorthy, Clonmel, Listowel and Ballina. They should stick with these tried and trusted places as much as they can because the Fleadh week at more northern places like Letterkenny and Cavan have been fairly disappointing if im honest

Listowel has the writers week, so they can't have it all.

Peolpe still moan about Letterkenny to this day. The Ulster Fleadh was in Dungiven a couple of years back. They gave the place a lick of paint and the place looks a million miles better for it. I'd be up there tonight but I have no discipline. I'd not be able to stay off the drink. I've had a great couple of days at it though.

I was over in Ebrington square when they were on. I'd say they abused the privilege by playing the sash. The reaction of laughter was probably not the one they expected and maybe the best way of dealing with such foolishness.

The closing ceremony thingy on right now is reflecting the "two traditions on this island"*

The craft village has been rammed the whole week.

This wee kid did a great version of Richard Thompson's English folk song Beeswing.

Letting Loyalists be part of an Irish festival is a privilege that was given to them... by who? and they abused this bestowed privilege by playing one of their most famous traditional songs?

A turn of phrase is all.

My reaction at the time was that it was a traditional Irish tune but I sensed a bit of mischief making there as well.

Official figures have 430k extra folk in Derry this week.... That must be a figure multiplied across the week.

Ridiculous. Im all for "shared future" whatever the **** that is, but that is not the fleadh. It goes both ways, I hear there was a street of bars trying to outdo each other with pumping RA tunes out into the street <doh> bumpkins.

If Derry wants to host it fair enough but leave it as it is, pure traditional music. The fleadh isnt really even supposed to be an organised event. It is competitions with the a contingent of trad musicians following it.

Fair enough I'm not going to hear that and maybe not reported down here but had to laugh at the mother-in-law this morning in Galway, she said "she didn't see any Unionist politicians attending the Fleadh",you have to laugh not matter were you are on this island someone will always catch you out or comment<laugh>

This is not true. I love a Rebel song more than most, but whoever told you that is wrong. The street of bars you refer to would be Waterloo street. I was there all night on Friday and a lot of the day on Saturday and this just never happened.

The Fleadh purists would be more pissed off with the faux country ****e coming from the pop up shops than any rebel song. Or maybe the stage on Shipquay street playing goats don't shave or the undertones.
