Reading this i reckon Bruce really rates Meyler, and will give him any chance to get fit again, so let's hope for the best. DAVID Meyler heads to America today to begin a month of rehabilitation aimed at finally curing his long-standing knee problem. The Sunderland midfielder has been out since January after re-injuring his knee ligaments just a month after returning to the first-team picture. Boss Steve Bruce fears it may not be until the New Year before Sunderland fans see Meyler in action again. But Sunderland hope a chunk can be shaved off that estimated return after the Irishman spends a month in Vermont with the same knee specialist who helped Chelseaâs Michael Essien back into action. Bruce told the Echo: âI know Michael Turner and Lee Cattermole have been out for long periods, but Meyler has been a massive loss this season. âEven when he came back into the side when he wasnât fully fit, he made a big difference to the team. âWeâve got to get him right because heâs a big player for us. âTheyâll do everything they can to get David right while heâs in America, without having surgery. Hopefully they can sort the problem out.â Knee ligament victims Meyler and Fraizer Campbell made just nine appearances between them in a red and white shirt this season. The prospect of being without the duo again for the bulk of next year is a harrowing one for Sunderland to face, particularly with the likes of Lee Cattermole, Titus Bramble, Craig Gordon and Michael Turner also struggling to be fit for the start of pre-season training. Meyler is far closer to a first-team return than Campbell, who is unlikely to feature at all next season, but he needs to prove his knee is strong enough to be reintroduced to the strains of the Premier League. Although Meyler was included on the bench for two games in April, the 22-year-oldâs knee remains susceptible to swelling and he is still not able to realistically challenge for a place in the side. The former Cork City man ruptured all the ligaments in his knee in a devastating injury in the final home game of last season against Manchester United. And although his relapse in Januaryâs win at Aston Villa wasnât so severe, it could still potentially rule Meyler out for 12 months by the time he is ready to compete for a first-team spot again.

It's sad to say, but you've only got to look at other players that have had the same/similar injury, to know that they are never again going to be the players that they once were. I feel for young players like Meyler and Campbell, because for the rest of their careers they are going to have continued problems with these injuries. I remember watching Alan Shearer being interviewed on TV shortly after he hung his boots up, saying that he had had a total of 8 operations on the knee that he crocked years ago, in order to keep playing. I'm sure that our friends up the road would agree with me that Shearer was never the same player, after doing his CKL.
Well, his flight has taken off. Good luck, David. @DMeyler on Twitter Just on the flight now all set for Vermont can't wait see everyone soon.. http://lockerz.com/s/107607088
On ALS also says this...... David Myler flew off to the USA on Saturday for rehab on his knee ligament damage with some leading specialists. Steve Bruce reckons the lad has been a huge miss and is hoping he can be right again for next season: “I know Michael Turner and Lee Cattermole have been out for long periods, but Meyler has been a massive loss this season. Even when he came back into the side when he wasn’t fully fit, he made a big difference to the team. We’ve got to get him right because he’s a big player for us. They’ll do everything they can to get David right while he’s in America, without having surgery. Hopefully they can sort the problem out.” Bruce admits Meyler wasn't fit when he came back into the team, why play him then??? Me thinks Bruce has a lot to do with our injury crisis!
Yes, he has. Rushing players back too soon last season has now caused us massive problems next season, with up to 5 first team regulars expected to be not fit for the opening game of the 2011/12 season.
Along with Cest's "cockbreath" I have learned mucho about oral hygiene this week. Thank you so much, not606.com Mick, when do you start the educational video series?
