Firstly a few reports we are officially out of the Gomis race including 'sky sports sources'. Although Cwarr says we are still signing him

    Just spotted this randomly:
@NUFC_Stats: Newcastle United have made a bid in the region of £8.5m for Belgian striker Jelle Vossen of Genk. #NUFC (via @LouisPH456)

Also a couple of days back a lad posted a pic of himself with joe Kinnear at an airport he worked at,said he mentioned a 21 year old Belgian striker, Ince and someone else as targets. Will see if I can find the links for that.

Thoughts? I am still very dubious, expecting one to leave before anyone else comes in.

    Link to tweet about Kinnear:
    https://twitter.com/matt_skeen1/status/366492308193030144

@Matt_Skeen1: @a_good_place supposedly after a young Belgian. Ince, Sinclair and Mcarthur from Wigan mentioned as well

@Matt_Skeen1: @nufcfans supposedly the Gomis is slow due to the fact that he wants 80k and JFK doesn't want to undermine out current squad

    @Matt_Skeen1: @mquinnNUFC @nufcfans @hodgey222011 he couldn't remember the name. 21 year old belgian international, 6"2

@Matt_Skeen1: @ousecruise @The_Looney_Toon it's a wage demand that is preventing the deal as Gomis is wanting 80K+

Not sure which is more unreliable, twitter rumours or Kinnear himself

With Gomis though it was always a case of we're desperate so he'll do, rather than being particularly excited about his quality. We were already offering over the odds in terms of transfer fee... If it's true he was after 80k per week, well I doubt he'd have proven an astute signing.

We definitely need to get one more striker in though, as well as Ince ideally!

Absolutely. If we get a striker and player such as Ince I would be delighted*.

*Providing of course we don't lose anyone.

I have a somewhat radical suggestion. Pardew has pretty much said that due to the ongoing saga's elsewhere (Rooney, Bale, Suarez) we're a bit stuck. Now I've been wondering what it is about these guys that could possibly affect us? Suarez - Arsenal would perhaps make one other player surplus, who would be of interest to us? Giroud. But I think it's Gervinho for Suarez there (if it happened). Bale - Real or Man U. This is where it gets interesting. Bale - Real might mean that Ronaldo returns to OT, it certainly makes someone surplus to requirements. Interestingly, the No7 has been made available by Man U, so Bale's move could have repercussions on Rooney - Chelsea. Now, if Rooney move to Chelsea that's one club with two many to choose from. I don't know they'd move on Ba so soon, and I think they will want experience....which leads me on to the final piece of this puzzle which is Lukaku. Joe Kinnear recently on his way to London to talk about a big, young Belgian striker. Only Lukaku fits this bill. It's a big signing, it would be a glorious piece of business and although as far fetched as anything Twitter comes up with, worth an optimistic shot.

West Brom have managed to sign Vydra this week. A week when Pardew claimed most clubs would struggle to do business. Is it a good thing we're barely linked with anyone? Or is it increasingly likely that Ince + 1 won't be arriving?

How happy will Overseas Toon be right now if we are after Vossen <laugh>

I thought it was Michy Batshuayi of Standard Liege though rumoured to be the target?

All of this is based on a Twitter rumour where one bloke allegedly met Joe Kinnear at a train station where the conversation centered around him being after a big, 21 year old Belgian footballer. He didn't know the name, but had a photo.....

The phrase "grasping at straws" doesn't even come close! That said, I had a go at straw grasping by trying to work out why - in the words of Pardew - our transfer moves were beholden to the movements of Bale, Suarez and Rooney. That scenario + Big Belgian = Lukaku.

    Probably....

JK was probably just looking for the Valley Junction Indian Takeaway and caught off guard.

"So Joe, can you tell me who we're after?"
"Er yes, its erm, a striker"
    "Which one?"
    "Er, mmm poppadoms................."
    "What?"
    "Yes its a er...............mmm chocolates"
    "Did you just say chocolates?"
"No mate, I just got a bit mixed up there, its a belgian lad, er, U21 international, the next Benteke, Lukaku or whatever. You know how it is Belgians and chocolates, I'm a sucker for both"
    "Sounds exciting Joe"
"It is mate, it is. Do you know if there is an Indian Restaurant in this train station"

I hear we're tabling bids as we speak. £4m apiece. Pardew not sure whether we'll get them over the line...

Would I **** want Kevin Doyle. We'd be better off playing Campbell. He's the sort of ****e i'd expect Kinnear to think we'd need
