Alright folks? I know I haven't been around much lately but I been having a few problems with my eldest. Anyway, some of you lads will be around my age, mid to late 40's. Anyone who remembers the late 70's to 80's & enjoyed the punk era remember the Cockney Rejects? They were going when I was at school & I left in '83. Always enjoyed their music & I've always had a big affiliation with West Ham. Anyhow, turns out they are still recording, found this on you tube the other night. I know it's an anti war song & as a ex member of HMAF myself I'd appreciate anyone's views on the song who lived through the era or are ex forces lads. Stinky Turner must be in his 50's now.
Hell yeh, do a mean anarchy in the uk on the old karaoke, last few weekends been rubbing shoulders with ruts lead singer down in Hartlepool.
I went to school with a lass who went to see the Ruts at Newcastle City Hall & she ****ed off with the lead singer. I wont mention her name as she was only 15 at the time but all the lads at school had the hot's for her.
This is a weird thing to say, he looks like a decent looking johnny rotten if that's possible. Last Friday he was trying to get me on a local radio station with him to churn out a few songs, I was pi$$ed before you asked.
Personally not keen on either the Punk Rock movement or politics in music. Too many trendy lefties trying to be angry young men, and as a former member of HM Forces I dislike footage of servicemen's remains being repatriated used for political point scoring. Still they're entitle to their opinions - it's called democracy. I did find it amusing when looking at some CD's recently to find one of those cheapo compilations being touted as "The Greatest / Best" whatever of Punk and New Wave being totally devoid of any records by the Sex Pistols or the Clash........ Even this old heavy rocker recognises that those 2 bands were arguably just about the best of that genre !
There were a whole host of far better singers, musicians, bands and songwriters than the Sex Pistols or the Clash - they were just the bad boys that grabbed the headlines. Elvis Costello, Annie Lennox, New York Dolls, The Tubes, Television, Graham Parker and the Rumour, The Jam etc, to nmae a few
The first punk song? Far better punk bands than the pistols. Crass, Exploited etc. One of my favourites. Comm's right about The Damned & New Rose. It probably was the first punk record that ever made it onto vinyl. However, I've just checked my copy & it's stamped 1976.
Stranglers one Friday, The Jam the next Friday at the Seaburn Hall. Admission........... 25p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! x

Cracking programme on BBC4 tonight Billy called 'Punk Britannia'. I starts at 9pm and is in 3 parts finishing at midnight. Then after that you have 'Punk Britannia at the BBC' which shows the best performances of the era at the beeb. Enjoy mate and hope things are getting better with your eldest..
Have you seen The Ruts with Henry Rollins from 2007. Rollins does well, hard to replace Malcolm Owen but he does a good job. The concert was a tribute to Paul Fox, the Lead Guitarist who died of Cancer a few months later. There's also a documentary with the remaining members of the band and a Henry Rollins stand-up show on the gig. Both are worth watching.
