Grifter, you pick up on one sentence of mine and ignore the the next one. Why does one of the world's best international managers pick him? Because he is one of the best and chosen by someone who knows a lot more than you and me. We might have opinions but it does not mean a thing to those who are paid to make choices. As for your list of goalkeepers. Watching the match last night against a second rate team I think Hart was more interested in his dandruff than stopping that first goal. my personal opinion he has been poor lately but what do I know, he still gets picked. You all go on about Cesar's earnings but the truth is you dont know how much he earns. he did not had a gun to his head when he signed his contract, it was what he was offered. He probably would not have signed if he knew he would have the 'support' of the worst defence in the league in front of him. As for the crass comment about not caring about fame for QPR. if TF thought that he would have baled out because it is important in the long term. Football is a global thing and not confined to the Bush. To the one who said they hardly heard our name during the Con Fed I was watching the Spanish version which went to all the Spanish speaking nations, literally millions and millions of, people.
I do see what you're saying Col, but Cesar is pretty much the golden boy of Brazilian football (in goalkeeping terms). Scolari desperately wants a reason to pick him, he's the tried and tested choice. The weight of Brazilian public opinion is deifnitley in Cesar's favour too. Even if what you've said is true, and Cesar is one of the top 10 goalies in the world- wouldn't that be overkill a bit? All we need to get promoted is one of the best goalies in the championship. Why pay top10 wages when top 100 would probably do the job of promotion?
Notoriety is not a great form of fame. TF's efforts in getting us noticed in SE Asia were one of the contributing factors in last seasons demise - we have to concentrate on stability not the bright lights. Obviously football is global but the actual ability to turn this global exposure into anything tangible is limited to only a tiny handful of clubs such as Man Utd, Real and Barca. Clearly Rangers are not in that category, nor can they ever hope to be so the 'fame' of QPR worldwide will be irrelevant for a long while to come. Teams like Fulham and Villa have been established PL teams for years yet I imagine their global appeal to be rather limited. There are far more pressing concerns.
68 grand per week was the figure I saw on an article posted by the 'QPR Til I Die' FB (I think) page. If that's anywhere remotely near the real figure than it's hardly surprising that he's been turning down all the transfer possibilities. Apparently no one will offer him a contract til 2016. For all his faults, Green has won promotion from the second tier on two occasions.
If nothing materialises then we should play him. A lot of discontent seems to be about alleged wages. He did have some flaky performances, especially when the wheels started to come off our season (again) but he pulled off some saves that only Cech of 7 years ago and Hart of 2 years ago could have done. The rumours of his move and the comments of our illustrious manager have just fuelled the animosity to someone who has done nothing that either Taarabt or Remy (the former more erratic in form and the latter with a pending court case) haven't done. Remy, in particular, seems to have escaped this scathing criticism and the reason is a good set of games last year (seems to amount to being given a lot of rope despite any possible transgressions). Cesar had many more great games than bad and the words of Scolari may have lessened his resolve to leave. His views on wages are no worse than any other player's. Joey Barton is now the golden boy to many because his wage demands have left him here but there's no possible salvation for Cesar for a few shockers? Iffy on crosses but a world class shot stopper and would enhance most teams. We are a fickle and unforgiving lot.
