Like alot of people have already said I don't think I have celebrated an England goal like that well actually ever! Just reading all the tweets about Lambert, showed the love for him. Turning on the TV this morning and it all being Lambert, Lambert, Lambert was amazing. We have all known he was capable of doing it for England, shame it has taken Roy this long. What a fairytale week for Lambo though. You couldnt actually write this stuff, what dreams are made of! 8th August 2013 The birth of his 3rd child. Gets the England call up he has been waiting for all his life. 12th August 2013 Joins up with England Squad. 14th August 2013 Comes on in the 68th minute to make his England debut. 70th minute he scores the winning goal in front of friends, family, work collegaues, fellow professionals and thousands of England fans. Think this sums it up nicely from Lambert himself..... It's probably the best week of my life, the best moment of my career. http://www.thefa.com/england/News/2013/scotland-rickie-lambert-debut-goal-fatv
6 mins 50secs onwards he hits the post. doesnt show the reply from another angle that shows clearly a last second deflection that effected lamberts shot. doesnt show his other chance straight after though. http://sport.stv.tv/football/intern...-scotland-lose-out-3-2-to-england-at-wembley/
Go to ITV Player and you can see as much or as little of the match, over and over again for the next month of days. I suppose I can supply a link: https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/inter...e-6-international-football-england-v-scotland Or highlights only: https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/inter...tional-football-highlights-england-v-scotland Bear in mind that you can dip in and out of the full game so you hardly need the second link.
Nice words from Pochettino in The Mirror - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...lambert-era-only-2172685#.Ug1LUUtAh2E.twitter
I still have a stupid grin on my face and come over all goosebumpy every time I watch that goal and celebration.
As it happens, the two other chances that he could well have scored from were miss-able for two reasons. The first one that hit the post was coming at him at a fair rate, and was slightly deflected by a Scottish boot a few yards in front of him, so he had to re-adjust very quickly. And it nearly went in. Not an open goal, but entirely miss-able. I'm sure everyone would have given any English Prima donna the excuse for missing it, so why not the newbie..? Second. Perhaps this was the one where he might have scored, but once again, more illustrious players have bottled it. He had the ball on the left side of the penalty area and was advancing to the Scottish keeper. Baines, who had fed him from a central position was not in a better position and neither was any other English player. But I've seen Rickie do this before when he's had a wee bit too much time to make a decision - he passed it straight to the keeper, when he meant to either curl it far post or place it near post. Give him a split second and he would have scored. Give him plenty and the percentages drop slightly. Never mind. His headed goal was a thing of beauty. Perfect in technique, power and placement.
Everyone loves the story because it's a 31 year old who, what, worked in a factory, and thanks his family and his club after hearing 80,000 cheer at Wembley. We miss old fashioned sports heroes, and when one comes along, we just love it. Meanwhile, I've been saying Lambert for England since about halfway through the year before last, when you were still in the Championship. How could Hodgson seriously prefer someone else? Fact is England's best chance against good teams are from free kicks, and Lambert's just as good as Carroll in the air and a lot better on the ground.
