How does every other team manage to successfully market itself abroad and attract fans? Oh yeah, they actually achieve stuff on the field not simply change their club name!
Define ties? He doesn't live or work in the city anymore, nor do his family, he hates the council and has alienated a large number of the city's residents. He's also gone as far as to pose with fake blueprints of a stadium whilst stating his intention to remove the club from the city.
It's not that simple. Anyone who thinks that foreign markets will suddenly open up because of success on the field without having to do any other marketing work is sadly mistaken. A lot of Man Utd's success overseas was due to Peter Kenyon's marketing strategy. So successful was he that Abramovich took him to Stamford Bridge shortly after acquiring Chelsea. At that time Chelsea had hardly been a success on the field. After he left Chelsea it was rumoured that Man City wanted him in order to market them abroad, but being a lifelong Man Utd fan it is not surprising that he never went there. Liverpool are successful in overseas marketing and they haven't been successful for almost 10 years. It is an often used saying in business that you sell an idea, not a product. If you can sell the vision of City for the future to the markets abroad it matters little that we haven't won anything. I have said on another thread that successful businesses do not undertake a rebrand and foreign marketing plan without first conducting significant market research. If the Allams have carried out marketing research to show that rebranding to give emphasis to the Tiger element of the club will increase the possibility of being able to sell the idea, then perhaps they should come out and say so. But if they haven't and propose rebranding on a whim, that would be a real concern
It is down to their successes on the pitch over a sustained period. I've argued all along that Man City have spent tons on foreign marketing and have actually won things and haven't got a fanbase in Asia. Well, nothing the size of United or Liverpool anyway. And why is that? Man City are not as big as either of them. SBOBET isn't a good example as West Ham had them as their sponsor a while ago.
Started this thread to get an alternative feel from all the "doom & gloom" merchants re.t he "so called" renaming . Will fans stop calling them "The Tigers" or "City"--I, for one don't think so ! If nothing else, we've seen a few sensible comments from fans who don't need to stoop to name calling and abuse to express their opinion on the subject! The ones that do need to do it--we all know who you are and your feelings--but please allow us to have ours ! I expect to receive a few abusive comments posted now, from the usual (known) suspects.
Has anybody cracked a menopause gag yet? I think the change is affecting more people on here than first thought...
Some also buy players that are already popular there. Real Madrid bought David Beckham as connecting themselves with the popularity he had (through Man U's marketing there) was seen as a good way to break into that market rather quickly. QPR tried the same with signing Park from Man U, and they had one of Fernandes' planes rebranded in QPR colours.
