Reality check needed here guys. Uts been mentioned and rightly so, that we are a mid-table side this season as it stands now. So stop talking us up as we don't have the tools to do it. Ross is a decent player and capable of scoring goals, but so is Dom, Hunt, Varney, Rudy, EHD, Smith, Murphey. Our manager is hoping we get goals from all over the park because we don't have a prolific striker yet. He can only do what he can with what we have, and although Ristac is correct with his stats, they have a funny way of working in your favour too. Hunt, Varney and Ross back in 08 were playing in worse teams and competing at a lower level. The players they were playing with were also worse and not able to provide the balls for them to get on the end of ..... Thats why Smith may not look like he can score, but given the tools he could be a dark horse.
I think that McCormack needs to move to the left of Smith to feed off his flick ons its no use him playing on the wing when Smith is playing as he will not get any service taking up a position similar to what Murphy did would be far more effective don't you think
Nothing has changed with me and it is still about consolidation because we haven't the flair, the creativity or the strikers to get us enough goals, we are in my opinion a team capable of finishing just outside the top 6 McCormack has finished the last two seasons in a team that finished mid table and in those two season he has scored 23 goals and that isn't good enough... I would prefer to see him leave for the right price and someone new brought in. Poleon might be an answer for us but until we see more of him it would be a very risky gamble to sell McCormack and use the money to strengthen other areas It wasn't just clear on Sunday that we haven't the fire power to get promoted, we don't create the chances either. YES it was a great point and a nice clean sheet but Leicester were a team to be beaten in that first 60 minutes, when they changed formation and brought on the subs they looked a different team.
Afternoon all. Happy we've turned it down. Ross is worth more to the side playing than what that money would buy. Have to add, I'm a bit more confident (or at least hopefull) with the prospect of loanees arriving with McDermott choosing them. Saying that, I still think this will be a slow process in terms of where we might finish. Can't see us riding high other than in spirit. All being well that'll be enough to get into the playoffs but would be happy with a top half finish. This early in the season is hard to judge how teams will do. I think ambitions will have to wait til we see how it's going and who we might have brought in by September.
So basically Ross is being played out of position? I don't think Dawson is ready yet. Now I've only seen him a few times and he has obvious potential but he needs to get out on loan and bulk up (sorry for repeating myself) because although he makes decent runs and links up well he also gets knocked off the ball to often.
Who has being saying that Eire, certainly not from me. With what we have and what I've seen so far, I think finishing near the play offs would be good. The problem we have at Leeds United is we lose to the so called smaller clubs and beat or draw with the better ones, well we did in previous seasons. We are only 2 games in, so we can't judge the inconsistency bit. But its been a good start so far..
Not arguing with you either, hope my comments don't come across like that. Just giving my opinion on things...
Ristac, Cardiff and Hull both got promoted automatically last season and neither had anywhere near a 20 goal striker.
That was my point. The manager should play to his strengths and play him in his correct position, then we can judge him on the amount of goals he gets.
My point is that as a collective our current squad does not have the ability to net between 60 and 70 goals which would be required for promotion. The last time we looked like we might do it we scored 81 goals that was when we finished 7th in 2010/2011 Becchio 19 Gradel 18 Somma 11 Howson 10 We just don't have those kind of goal scorers in the squad at present.
Not sure I share some of the views on here. McCormack was one of our main forwards. However, this being a team game, where can Ross deliver the most to help the team win? I would argue that giving him the license to wander anywhere he wants behind the main striker(s) delivers far more than just sticking him up top. We now have Poleon, Varney, Smith, Hunt, and to a lesser extent, much of the midfield to weigh in with goals. Having Ross score 20+ would be useful. But if he's teeing up plenty fo others to knock in, so be it.
That team was attack orientated with a pretty poor defence IIRC. I wouldn't mind grinding out a load of 1-0 results (George Graham style) if it meant us getting to the play-offs! Our spirit could carry us a long way this season. More than what a lot of us think.
One of the reasons we scored so many to finish 7th was because we conceded so many, but looks better defensively so far so maybe not so many needed.I'm sure Murphy,Byram and Diouf will chip in with a few as well.
A general point - I'm expecting a lot more from set pieces this season. We've got farmore height in the team now, so we should convert that into more goals.
McCormack has scored 2 goals in the last 3 league games (including Watford last game of the season) so he's not doing too bad. If we stay there or thereabouts until January, riding on the wave of renewed optimism, the attendances will hover around the 30k mark. That's probably a good 10k more for each home game than GFH budgeted for. So by the January transfer window that will give at least £3m extra for transfers, and we can push on from there for the second half of the season
I don't think that quite adds up to £3m and wages also have to be paid to these new signings. This season requires some debt pay back which will not be needed next season. We need to have a bit of patience here.
If Austin carries on he will get 1 in a 100, and it'll be an absolute screamer, the other 99 are going to be painful for the guy in the wall, or that guy who turned to talk to his mate in the crowd
