QPR close in on Baird deal By Paul Warburton Aug 12 2013 QPR are close to tying up a one-year deal for Chris Baird while and deny two Premier League clubs in the process. West Brom and Stoke are set to be disappointed as boss Harry Redknapp revealed the former Fulham player has been training non-stop with Rangers for the last eight days. Baird (pic) was released by the Whites at the end of last season, but Harry sees a second west London future for the Northern Ireland international. âI like Chris Baird. He knows what heâs doing and heâs a good player,â said the manager. âIâd like to do something with him.â But the manager also hinted that after Loic Remy and Adel Taarabt, who ironically made his Fulham debut on Saturday, have been loaned out, Rs needed to either release or sell those surplus to requirements. âIâm not sure about all these loans out,â he added. âWe need to sell a few as well.â Read more: Fulham Chronicle http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/fulham-fc/2013/08/12/82029-33717997/#ixzz2bk6PWUPH
QPR manager Harry Redknapp hopes to tie up the signing of former Fulham man Chris Baird this week. The Northern Ireland international, 31, has been training with the R’s and will be offered a one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. West London Sport recently revealed that Baird was set for a move to Loftus Road. And Redknapp said: “I like Chris Baird. He knows what he’s doing and he’s a good player. I’d like to do something with him.” Baird, a free agent after being released by Fulham at the end of last season, made more than 100 Premier League starts during a six-year spell at Craven Cottage.
He should be a solid player for you guys. I know a lot of fans were sad to see him move on at the end of last season. I thought he would go to one of the promoted sides as we would be an ideal for one of those teams – EPL experience and can play in a number of positions, a good solid player. Hope he does a good job for you this season, and good luck this season.
Would like this to be wrapped up quickly I'd feel much safer with him at CB rather than Hill based on Saturday's evidence
This is a fantastic signing for you. IMO Bardiniho's best position is the Makalele role / winning possession in midfield. He was Man of the Match several times in that position for us (inc key Europa games). If I had it my way, he'd still be at Fulham. Plus keep an eye out for his rasping shots...he doesn't score many, but when he does they'll break the back of the net! Good luck next season, hope to see you straight back up where you belong.
Just looking at his playing stats, he only played 3 league games (2 as sub) and 2 cup games for you since Christmas, was he injured or out of favour?
