    Eqypt doesn't sound very exciting.

Why doesn't it change it's name to Camels?

What's a few thousand years of history?

I wonder what Assem Allam thinks?

There's so many points like this which can be made. Why don't United change their name since it's so unidentifiable?

It's a bit closer to home with Egypt given Allam was born there.

So why not rename it "Jamal" - the Arabic for camel - in Arabic countries and "Camel" in non-Arabic countries?

Yes & the name "Misir" (undotted i) can refer to "the two straits", "civilisation", "metropolis", "frontier-land", "country" & comes from Semitic origin especially the Hebrew "Mitzráyim".. so it has an older and much deeper meaning to Egyptians than the English name "Egypt" which derives from Latin "Aegyptus" and that in turn from Ancient Greek "Aígyptos".

Who cares? Lets just change it. I'm sure it'll be worth a few bob.

Sorry, I was speaking in "Allam mode".

Maybe this belongs in the current 'trivia' thread !

We often forget that we Anglicize country names and the names we give them mean nothing to the indigenous inhabitants.

Seeing as the Allam's live here I'm sure they would soon get excited at the suggestion that we renamed Egypt with a couple of Camel names depending on were you were. I would hope they would see the irony.

case in point.. They are the only club you could do that with TBH, they could re-name themselves as United.. the supporters might hate it but they would be unique

Peter, do you have a finger missing, enjoy a tipple and smoke incessantly whilst sat on a stool? You have a quirky humour that is easy to warm to. :emoticon-0105-wink:

I've never smoked, I gave up drinking about ten years ago and I have all my fingers but I have sat on a stool so you're not all wrong.

It's OLM I feel sorry for. Away during this past week and not back til next week, will we see him do a tickler and do a massive multiquote post so he can have his say on everything, or will he just reply to every single post that irks him or he agrees with?

Could be messy. Could break his ipad.

I think he may think it's too late and not want to resurrect the debates.

Didn't some of the supporters already do it? FC United of Manchester.

So, how's about AFC City of (Kingston upon) Hull?
