QPR set to rekindle interest in Crouch Aug 9 2013 By Paul Warburton QPR boss Harry Redknapp insists he needs a fourth striker â and is set to rekindle interest in Peter Crouch. The former Hoop is believed to be on £80k-a-week at Stoke under former Rs boss Mark Hughes, and beyond Harryâs budget. But a loan deal, or a compromise on the 6ft 7ins strikerâs wage packet would see the deal back on. Redknapp was delighted with the full debut of Charlie Austin that netted Rs newest forward a goal inside three minutes at Exeter on Tuesday, but admits hope of bringing Jermain Defoe to Loftus Road looks dead and buried. The Tottenham player is ironically a target for Stoke and West Brom, but if the door closes on Defoe because heâs headed for The Britannia, another might open to allow Crouch (pic) a return to his West London homeland. Redknapp said: âItâs wishful thinking to get Jermain, even though Iâve signed him so many times, but I think it might be difficult to get him. âBut this (the Championship) is a tough league - Saturday, midweek, Saturday midweek, and I still need four strikers.â
I'm really glad that Harry sees the need to have a fourth striker, I just don't think Crouch ( as much as I like him ) should be a main target. We need someone playing for the club, not dollars and even though Crouch is an ex player, the only real reason he'd come back is to keep getting the same type of dollars, plus some game time.
