Yeah, I'm still extremely relieved about Damiao. I'm praying Osvaldo comes off because then I'd be able to be super excited for two of our three signings... and hopeful for the other
Three weeks still left of the transfer window. Anything could still happen. We signed both Ramirez and Yoshida on the last day of the window last year. Personally I think we need full back cover.
Why haven't we signed George Best yet? I hear he's dead, but if Cortese really has the ambition he says he has, this should only be a small inconvienience.
I am sure there are offers on the table that depending on what happens with other clubs may well still come to fruition. Who know's, bids may have been accepted but the teams are waiting to sign replacements before they actually sell. Its like a chain when buying a house. Someone further down the line needs to find their new house and once they do everything clicks into place in no time. Transfer deadline day is the busiest transfer day out of the whole window for a reason, it forces everyones hand. Its been a good window so far and I think it will be much better by the time it closes.
Why do a QPR... Be patient for God's sake! These are two quality players that were linked to higher reputable clubs, and they've have chosen Saints for a reason. We are signing the right players who have the right ambition and professionalism to fit in at the club Why rush a 'big' signing that could end up being a mistake...?
We need a better defence to push on in this league, I think we have enough up front but we will ship goals too easily.
Cortese said in his last interview that Southampton believes they have a duty to bring through players for the England team...which we are trying to do with our Academy. However, I think we have to buy the right players for us (whatever the nationality) at the moment. Unlike the top clubs, we can't accumulate players as a hobby, so can't take too many chances. I'm just happy to see Academy lads get the chance to learn beside good, experienced players.
As last season wore on, the defence tightened right up, but our goals dried up somewhat. Having signed Lovern, Shaw having a season under his belt, Chambers and Targett hopefully pushing for starts, and Wanyama providing more defensive protection, I think we are well covered defensively. Hoover found his feet eventually at this level too.
