Wigan Athletic winger James McClean has revealed that his decision to leave Sunderland was made because he 'wasn't enjoying his football' on Wearside. McClean, 24, took a pay-cut earlier this week when he made a £2m move to the DW Stadium. Despite dropping down from the Premier League to the Championship, McClean is adamant that he made the right decision. "I really do believe this is the right move for me," he told Sunderland Echo. "Obviously things had gone wrong for me at Sunderland. "I'm fully aware that I made mistakes and, while I would also admit to losing my confidence, I certainly wasn't enjoying my football. I've already held my hand up admitting the mistakes I've made, but I also believe I've learned from those experiences, and moved on. "The move to Wigan is the right one. The fact that Wigan won the FA Cup last season and now have the Europa League to look forward to was also a big factor for me as I want to play in Europe." McClean could make his debut for the Latics in Sunday's Community Shield clash with Manchester United at Wembley. Thats funny cause we were'nt enjoying you trying to play Football James!
No great loss to us, his politics do not come into it for me just a limited one dimensional footballer, will do ok for wigan
Getting booed by his own fans...i wonder why... Having reading into the possible reasons he didnt wear it, its fair enough Think he could of found similar form under PDC but it wasnt to be
So McClean wasnt enjoying his football on Wearside, I've got news for the f****er, around 40,000 weren't enjoying his football either.
Took the words right out of my mouth lol, I gotta feeling he'll do well at Wigan though. If he keeps his head down and keeps his trap shut then good luck to him
This ^ as i've said all along his inability to adapt and learn through common sense firstly means he will never player at a higher level that safc nor in front of a bigger home following
So the cheapest player on the books gets the blame , look at the 10k signings and the fool of a manager
No blame here stu, fact is i would have given him till jan to see if he could turn the other way, maybe he cant and wont ever be able to add it to his game, if its the case and very likely imho then we've had his best year and he is not up to the standard as we saw last year, easily sussed by the pedigree of the prem
i agree most games teams doubled up on him ,and sess, aj imo needs to really show his value in direct comparison to james, he must also show in no uncertain terms his huge wages are worth while
But we will have wor giaccy and potentially mavrias fow lw which both sess & aj could cover if needs be, se we dont need jm
True i liked his work rate ,if james has learnt from his time at safc it will stand his new club in good stead, i am sorry he is gone ,perhaps a better job from his aids might have avoided some of the problems around him , non league as such to prem football ,away from friends and family i think he should be cut some slack over his antics ,foolhardy and at times immature, but even with his limitations he gave his all, more than most ,as i say costing a vast amount more than him
I dont hate mclean but i can understand the reasons why some do (but we'll not start that again) and also understand your with macmanaman, awful challenge, no need to wreck kids football matches over it (but we'll not start that either)
We wont miss him and he wont miss us. He was never going to be a top EPL player and has found his level. Move along now nothing more to see here.
Wigan is not a kick in the ass off Warrington, the population of which 'love' the IRA after they bombed the place. Enjoy. European footy on the beach in Spain.
