In order to assist the club, I have kindly collated all the news coverage from the UK and abroad and sent them in a concise email for James Mooney, the Clubs Marketing and Online Commercial Manager. Good evening James, Well, what a day, bet youâre relaxing having a few beers away from the needless furore the club has caused. Perhaps you have missed some of todayâs press coverage? To help you get a feeling for the mood of the City of Hull, the country, and the wider football world, I have collated some below for you. This email should be taken in the manner its intended, genuinely showing you the result of this completely misguided name change, in a hope the club will reconsider. Hardly good coverage is it, unless the aim was âany publicity is good publicityâ. The Independent If their beloved club had been called âcommonâ or âlousyâ by rival fans, Hull City fans would be able to brush off the insult â they are too excited about Premier League football returning to their stadium. Unfortunately for them, itâs the clubâs chairman who has decided the teamâs name isnât classy enough. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...hen-theyre-hull-city-tigers-fans-8754965.html ESPN â Fans Fury after Hull City rebranded as Tigers http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/228691.html The Telegraph â Hull City Tigers and Sports Silliest Names http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ll-City-Tigers-and-sports-silliest-names.html The Mirror - Bonkers branding move unites the footballing world in ridicule as Hull City AFC become Hull City Tigers http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/hull-tigers-name-change-footballing-2144731 The Scottish Record â Hull City Fans rail against new name â ITS NOT GRRRR-EAT http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/hull-city-fans-rail-against-2144833 The Telegraph â âDisgusting Decisionâ by owner Assem Allam http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...itys-name-to-Hull-Tigers-infuriates-fans.html The Guardian â Wishy Washy reasons that donât make any sense. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/aug/09/the-fiver-hull-city-er-tigers The Times â City break that leaves Hull feeling far from Grrrr-eat http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/premierleague/article3838449.ece Metro â Hull City Tigers name change is a sad day for fans http://metro.co.uk/2013/08/09/hull-city-tigers-name-change-is-a-sad-day-for-fans-3917762/ Yahoo Sport â Renaming of Hull City angers fans http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/football-claws-tigers-tag-130625316.html NBC Sport â Hull City AFC to by Hull City Tigers..Whatâ¦No its not April 1st http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...fc-to-be-called-hull-tigers-from-now-on-what/ Online Petition at Change.org https://www.change.org/en-GB/petiti...&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=share_petition Kind regards, Mr ************ Season Ticket Holder of HULL CITY AFC â The Tigers
I have to say though, the Guardian one had me pissing myself laughing, extract below: Hull City are changing their name to Hull City Tigers, news that must have left Phil Brown spinning in his sun bed. Not because he thinks it's a terrible idea, but because it's a terrible idea he forgot to have during his time as Hull's manager and even more galling after they never did go through with renaming the stadium the Phil Brown Thunderdome and the club's official song to "Can you Phil it".
There's also the soccer page on Reddit. 140 000 subscribers and they've changed the banner photo of the page to our badge. Lots of comments on the thread about the change from various fans. http://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1k0ge0/hull_city_to_change_name_to_hull_tigers_in/
My email to the Club on 25 July and James Moody's reply. As a season ticket holder I recently received an email from you advising how to buy a ticket for the Chelsea game on August 18. I was however dismayed to see (after much denial by the Clubs CEO about rebranding the Clubs name) that there is now glaring reference in capital letters to HULL TIGERS AFC. above the wording Ticket office. I consider this to be nothing less than rebranding by stealth and as a supporter of Hull City for over 40 years I am deeply unhappy and indeed concerned where this is all leading to. I must inform you there is a substantial groundswell of opinion firmly against this hideous marketing of Hull Tigers rather than Hull City. I wish to take this opportunity to instruct you not to send any further emails from the Club until such time as reference to Hull Tigers AFC or any other similar abomination is deleted from future correspondence. Finally, I shall be pleased if you will forward this email to the owners of the Club and Nick Thompson in particular. Regards Good morning Thank you for your email on this subject - you are not alone! To be completely honest this was set up around 12 months ago by the old marketing manager as a template during the process of changing the name of the business side of the club and it has been used by the ticket office since. When I sign off emails I check the content and not templates and so I was unaware of the issue until now. I was as surprised as anyone to see this. I can assure you that it has now been changed and I would like to reiterate that we are Hull City. Thanks, James Lying twat.
Strange thing to say? He hasn't even stated the e-mail address he used and it's easy to get hold of people at the club if you need to... George left months ago. It's now James Mooney. He's a really good bloke is James. Such a shame everyone at the club seems to be in on this massive lie which was never going to last long.
George left a few months ago. We appear to have replaced him with a bloke called James Moody, though what he does with his time is beyond me.
Understand one thing and one thing only, this is Papa Allem, no more, no less. This is a cracking OT, but we should all stop shooting the messengers. A football club, it's name,it's identity, it's history and, most important of all, it's integrity, is how it is measured - I don't share Papa Allem' s view and will fight it - success on the pitch will have sweet FA to do with it.
I may well of missed it, but I am interested to know how OLM sees this. I'm not having a crack here, I genuinely respect the view and contacts; how are sponsors viewing this - many are proper supporters? Simply trying to gauge the opinion, a PM will do.
