QPR's Esteban Granero to Real Sociedad for £5m deal

QPR midfielder Esteban Granero, 26, could go to Real Sociedad on loan with a view to a permanent £5m deal next summer, but his wages are a stumbling block.

As per the whole team ................
I don't know whether to feel ok or sad that this guy is leaving. He had so much promise yet to my limited viewing of him, he has continuously delivered so little.
I keep waiting for for him to step up a gear ............... but it doesn't happen!
Had really hoped he'd come good.

On 30 August 2012, Granero signed a four-year contract with English club Queens Park Rangers after transferring for a reported fee of £9 million, and was handed the number 14 shirt.[10][11] He made his Premier League debut two days later, starting in a 1–3 away loss against defending champions Manchester City.[12]

Granero scored his first goal for QPR on 6 October 2012, but in a 2–3 defeat at West Bromwich Albion.[13

I thought remy for 8 million was a club record

Thanks Kiwi, I suppose we'll never know exactly how much we paid, but I'm pretty sure we won't make a profit on him

H's plan is pretty transparent - a team of British 'battlers' who will sweat blood, get his jokes etc etc, to get promotion. Lets hope it works, then we build a proper prem team if we get there. I wonder why he reversed his approach at Portsmouth where he brought in lots of relatively unknown foreign players. Must have had a better scouting system.

Notice he was on Claire Balding's BT Sport TV show last night, rehashing his old Paolo Di Canio anecdotes. That's twice in a week he's been on BT TV, looks like a contract is in place.

We never saw how good Granero could be.

Unfortunately we didn't see any evidence of that last season Dave

Granero was possibly one of my biggest disappointments of last seasons signings. Really thought he would wow us.
Never any really good performances from him. Good business if true, Adios Estaban.

Think I'd prefer a less talented player who performs on a regular basis than one who never does it in an R's shirt.

Faurlin and Granero together orchestrated the best QPR performance for decades away at Spurs last season. Of course we lost, they played a poor first half against West Ham at home next game, and that was the last we saw of that combination.

It could be that he was just going through a bad phase in his career (as Hoilett clearly was last season) but from what we saw its difficult to see how he would ever cut it in English football. Wants way too much time on the ball. He may well go on to star in the Spanish league with his vision and passing (except when playing Barcelona who close down really fast).

I also recall that Judo said on here that combo was a small positive in one of our poor friendly performances.

I would have liked to see him here another year - his attitude seemed OK and I don't think anyone really allowed him time to settle into the pace of a northern European game.

He was astounding at home to Chelsea, absolutely ran it and showed what he's capable of.

I always used to think he had the potential to be our Pirlo style midfielder. Deep lying and spreading passes for fun.

What others have said is correct though, he didn't show any evidence that he could rapidly improve and cut it in England which is a real shame.

We didnt pay anywhere near £9m for him, it was less than half that. The media just inflated the figures again, like how Samba was on £100k when in reality is was just over £60k.

I hope we get £5m for him, hes not worth that and is clearly not suited to the British game.

I think it was a move he quickly regretted and his heart wasn't it. His departure is good for both player and club.
