In my defence its been a long week, I'm tired and bored. So have a drink. By Popular Demand, a Music Thread for the Spice Girls. So then, Are You A Spice Girl or is your preference for some other random girly act like the New York Dolls. We have all seen over the years how Lady Victoria, GERI and the rest of the Spice Girls have been badly portrayed by a media who simply doesn't understand their importance to the British Music Industry. That's their loss as we on Not606 know better. Feel free to add videos. It can be of the girls themselves or if you don't feel that you can public state your support, use an alternative surrogate band or singer. The first song I have chosen to commemorate their unique talents is Firing Squad by Penetration. A band and song suitably named for where many would choose to place the Spice Girls. Being a life long fan of the Spice Girls, you can imagine my surprise when I came across this unreleased track. Its called 'Frankenstein' suitably named..... Mind, I'm a bit unsure which one is Lady Victoria....
The final song tonight is the Spice Girls with Jet Boy. Another oldie, rarely seen. I understand this one of the first songs that Lady Victoria wrote for Sir David. Enjoy, its a classic.
Couldn't resist one more. This is a version of 'Get It On' a song originally by former member Marc Bolan. In this the Spice Girls are joined by the great Johnny Thunders. Goodnight.
I've got a severe case of boredom setting in and have a few months left of it, so God help us all. I need to learn how to play the guitar or something... Anyway, todays episode of Spiceworld, shall be out in the shops in due course.........>
The next dip into Spiceworld as I know it. Before the image makers got their hands on the girls, they were quite happy bumming it around in leather jackets and jeans. How things were to change, some would say to the worse, me, I'm not so sure when I watch this video. Its from the 'Its Alive' Tour where they play some of my favourite tracks. No.6 - Cretin Hop I particularly like. Many years later, Lady Victoria was to give an interview, where she finally hinted at what inspired her to write the song. At the time amidst much giggling she said it was something to do with Sir David, hopping on some Argentine footballers leg (Cretin), personally I think it more to do with hopping as he was about to take a penalty for England and hopped it over the bar (Cretin).
and todays second instalment of Spiceworld takes the girls to Germany. A new look for the singer, a blonde with thigh high leather boots. I can't understand why the girls let this singer go so early in her career, she seems to have a lot of potential and could have made it big with a bit more luck. You can see a slight change in the image of the rest of the band as well, and only a matter of time before the image makers snare them.
and the final peek into Spiceworld for today. One of my favourites - Cherry Bomb The image makers have finally got there hands on the girls and have given them a much more raunchy look. A look that was to become their trademark in later years. Ch, Ch, Ch, Ch, Cherry Bomb
Meanwhile in a cave in Wales Stevie Nicks sat pondering her next move. please log in to view this image Aggrieved at being overlooked for the part of Old Spice she works tirelessly to bring down the band she now despises using the craft. please log in to view this image Is this the real reason for the demise of the bints of Spice? Moses, you've sussed it. I always wondered what led to the demise of the Spice Girls, now we may be getting to the bottom of it. Ah, but look, perhaps the demise is not so close after all, is that the boys from Take That I see coming over the horizon to the rescue. It is, boo!!!! Sorry lads, but you'll have to wait for your own thread.
Back to Spiceworld With the help of the boys from Take That, the girls were able to overcome the evil Old Spice and rather than cause their demise, Old Spice was tricked into joining the band. History has shown that Old Spice only made one appearance with the girls, that was at a gig in London as a member of the newly formed super group Siouxie and The Spice Girls feat. Stevie Nicks.... The best known song from this period is Spellbound...........
Soon after the making of Spellbound, Siouxie and The Spice Girls decided to have a break, this resulted in the girls going in different directions. Next : The Comeback Coming Soon In October The End
The real Spice Girls Debbie Harry, Kim Deal, Siouxsie, Hope Sandoval, Nico Who plays drums? (EDIT: Bobby Gillespie?) Who cares?
