I'd love to see these quotes with Wenger saying he doubts we will bring any players in this transfer window. All of his comments (particularly recent comments) suggest he is confident we will be bringing in some new players.
Im sure we'll bring a couple of players in but will you honestly be suprised if they turn out to be the new Chamakh and Gervinho?
That's the risk you take when you keep trying to get bargain gems in the £5-15m bracket, and i don't think Wenger will ever budge from that policy
Despite hoping we get a big name signing to show we have turned a corner (and personally i think getting Suarez would show we are back in the market for top players who command top fees) i will reserve judgement on any players that are brought in who i haven't heard of or seen much of. It doesn't matter to me how much a player costs or what league they come from as long as they then turn out to be able to do the job. If we don't spend any money and go for bargain options and fail to pull off any good transfers which results in us failing to challenge for another season - then i will take issue. If we get unkown cheaper players but they perform and we are back to challenging then i won't mind.
And yes it is a risk and i hope we manage to get some top transfers wrapped up. Now that the money is there we can judge Wenger properly this season so if he chooses to go into the season having not brought players in it's his head on the line. I'm one of Wengers biggest supporters and if he goes for cheaper signings i'll still support him, but if that gamble doesn't pay off and it turns out we could have made some big signings and didn't, then i will be questioning his approach. But i personally think we are working on some big transfersand people will be pleasently suprised. I've been happy with the comments and signals comming out of the club, manager and players.
Yes but this new guy's been at that level for 8+ years, and apparently played only 14 games combined in 2 seasons, 2010/11 and 2011/12! (not because of injury) I would hope that the younger Giroud and Koscielny at least managed to secure a place in their ligue 2 team.
He has come up with an excuse every day why there has been no new signings. The market has been slow. Too many clubs have new managers. The confederations cup. The Asia tour. We want to promote from within. The market is inflated. The market will speed up shortly. No signings before the CL qualifiers. We can win the league with out current squad. Too many clubs acted quickly at the start of the window (which he previously called 'slow'). That doesn't sound like doubt?
I'll admit that things have changed when i see this kind of player announced on arsenal.com There's still time in this window..
You've read as deep as possible into his words to try and find any and all negative angles you can possibly get from what he has said whilst completely ignoring anything positive.
"I can assure the fans we will try very hard to keep them happy. We are certainly ready to spend the money, but the process is going slowly but surely." Wenger's latest on transfers. Things are clearly not going as quickly as we would like but it seems obvious there is a lot going on behind the scenes.
