Not been buying music much lately and want to update my iPod thingy. Any good bands/singers anyone can recommend? my tastes are pretty epileptic except I don't like rap or Robbie Williams. But bored today so I checked out a few banned adverts the vw polo advert is brilliant - check it out
Got both. Been into radiohead for years loved early stuff particularly anyone can play guitar and creep which the wife sings to me a lot. Got into miles Kane two years ago and got his album on the iPod player. But good call though on both!
i never look for "new" stuff. i always go back. been looking at the rolling stones and bowie a lot recently. they got huge back catalogs
Lots and lots. Been spending most of my Summer watching and listening to new music and offer the following small sample for your consideration, typical. Snarky Puppy - Quartermaster - best jazz band I've ever seen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1cskIan5Jw Emily Barker - Ghost Narrative http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRWZfTsnSbk She Makes War (Laura Kidd) - Scared to Capsize - currently my favourite artist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w-utqTYpeo Sparrow and the Workshop - The Faster You Spin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDrhWGepIvs This track live was like being hit round the head with a plank... Enjoy!
Tewks always has good recommendations I must say! Keep it up! Try these... The Polyphonic Spree You Don't Know Me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCYPk_QPpr8 Manic Street Preachers Show Me The Wonder (featuring a lovely video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9L-jyFEsK4 Haim Falling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ovrplcNwXo Matt Berry The Pheasant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is7VLi_kSs0 Nolan Porter I Like What You Give http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qwsZMZ1K3g And... I'm duty bound to include Paul Weller's most recent... Paul Weller Flame Out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=801EDlsIwwg
What great finds! Never heard of any of them but some gems in there. Snarky Puppy and that jazz funk sound look very promising, very me with a pint. Already commited to buying Laura Kidd and have played butterflies twice already and really like slow puncture and scared to capsize. Gonna give Emily Barker more time but can't get into the sparrow, far far too much work for me. I have heard of two of Kish recommendations (no prizes for guessing) and am feeling so out of touch. Will try all.Twenty years ago I was like Paul Gammbaccini but now if my kids don't have it, I won't hear it, We should do a fortnightly music night forum and the best track gets played at the valley by the DJ whose has three records I think and two of them are infinity by the guru josh project.
David Sylvian's earlier collection, 'Everything and Nothing', contains some masterpieces, especially the exceptional 'Orpheus'. There was also an instrumental collection, 'Camphor' which is lush. The wonderfull 'Red Earth (as summertime ends)' is what wakes me up every morning. Even more mellow, JBK with theit track, 'Beginning to Melt'.
Very kind of you, typical and Kish. I joined a music meet-up group in Bristle earlier on this year and I've seen some remarkable music since - none more remarkable than Laura Kidd though, typical (four times and counting) - she usually plays solo with a battery of devices and a looper and the sound she makes is unlike any other artist I've heard. There are passing references in her work to Kristen Hersh, Mary Timony and Juliana Hatfield, but that's all they are. Saw Snarky Puppy at The Colston after seeing one track at a presentation by Rise Records, there's nine of them on stage and they played a couple of minutes short of two hours, and the diversity of rhythms and styles was extraordinary. The Polyphonic Spree are very fine live, Kish if you can get to see them don't miss them. like the Matt Berry and Nolan Porter, but I'm still trying to make up my mind about Haim. Coming up, I've got Caitlin Rose, John Murry, Kathryn Williams, Emily Barker, Oxygen Thief, Emma's Imagination and The Moulettes - as I say, I'm well back into this - the music scene down here is sizzling at the moment.
I like Gregory Alan Isakov. He's very chilled out, acoustic musician. This is one of my favourite songs of his: Gregory Alan Isakov - Morning Lady I hate most of this mainstream s***! Raw and acoustic for me please.
Highly recommend a guy called Pete Macleod. Has a few singles and EP's on ITune's at the mo, but has recently been signed to a label and has an album coming out later in the year. His single 'Rolling Stone' due to be released shortly also.
Good choice Diamond! I interviewed Pete last year for LouderThanWar - top bloke and as you say he writes some great tunes; very soulful. http://louderthanwar.com/pete-macleod-interview/

Great read that Kish - certainly comes across as a top guy. A mate of mine has got to know him through Twitter, and now is good mates with him. Glad you like it Twekes - definitely worth keeping an eye out for him in the future. Some great other recommendations on here guys - so good to get the heads up on what is out there instead of the usual mainstream garbage.
This has been so successful, I think I'm going to put a thread on the open forum and the music forum and see what else we can get hold of - thanks for posting, typical.
