I am delighted for Rickie. This ticks another box for him in his ever improving career. Let's hope he scores a hat-trick, gets his match ball and cap, then retires from International football
Very pleased for him to get this feather in his cap. Suspect he is back up for Rooney...so if Rooney fit, he won't play. I don't see a great international future for him unless he gets a hat trick, but I hope he enjoys it and gets a bit of match time. Lovely, lovely bloke.
That's brilliant, really deserves his chance. Bet he gets 5 minutes at the end and never gets called up again.
Considering where he has risen from, I bet Lambert would settle for that 5 mins. He could never have predicted this for himself a few years ago.
Wonderful news & thoroughly deserved; couldn't be happier for him - unless he scores the winner & then I would probably burst.
delighted for him, this will probably be his only ever game for england so hopefully he'll get a good amount of playing time
Absolutley delighted for Rickie! He bloody deserves it, shame its taken so long and is only because of injuries really. I am sure just having that call up has made his day, actually getting game time would be icing on the cake. This pretty much sums it up off the BBC website... where he has come from to get where he is today. Lambert, 31, scored 15 goals as he played Premier League football for the first time last season having spent much of his career in lower divisions. He began his career at Blackpool but was released on a free transfer in 2000. The forward went on to play for Macclesfield, Stockport, Rochdale and Bristol Rovers before joining then-League One side Southampton for £1m in August 2009. Lambert's goals helped them win successive promotions and he went on to play a key role for the Saints in the top flight. He finished last season as the joint leading English goalscorer in the Premier League along with Frank Lampard - with 15. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23613462
With the club announcing it before England, did anyone else have a shuddering memory of when Let Tissier's brother leaked that he was in the team, meaning he *very* nearly got dropped....
Scored more goals (15), and created more chances (80) than any other Englishman in the Premier League. Just take a moment to consider how ridiculously impressive that is. Never has an international call-up been more deserved by anyone.
Rickie Lambert: Liverpool, Blackpool, Macclesfield, Stockport, Rochdale, Bristol Rovers, Southampton, England.
Finally a bit of decent footy news! So pleased for the bloke, very well deserved. We love you Rickie!
