Hope for Gary Hooper as Lambert gets a call-up. How Danny Welbeck gets in is beyond me: distinctly average player whose last season yielded just 2 goals in 39 games!. Same goes for Ashley Young!

Just for comparison, Simeon Jackson scored 3 in 19. Just saying...:cheesy:

But Welbeck plays for Man Utd. Sometimes it's the team you play for over your quality. See also: Andy Carrol, Ashley Young, Garthe Barry etc.

It really winds me up seeing players like Welbeck making the squad over players who are actually doing well and deserve it. England will never win a major tournament until they lose this mentality. Wales will just never win a tournament full stop <laugh>

i personally think welbeck is quite a talented player but being honest, there is no way on earth he has done anything like enough to be considered for the england squad. it is a total farce but then we already knew that! pleased for rickie lambert but why wasn't he selected when he was actually in form early last season? his form (much like holt's to be fair) dipped quite badly and now he gets called up? bizarre.

2 goals in 39 games? Michael Turner's is better than that!

Good news for your Ruddy and our Rickie.

About time quality players from teams not in the usual top 8 or so can be included.

Hope both our guys get game time.

Good luck for this season guys.

Ruddy already has a cap, but completely agree about Ricky - that said, as Supers points out, it is still 6 months too late.

Be good if at one stage during the game Ruddy was on for England and Rusty, Whittaker and Snodders were all on for Scotland - would that be a first in having four Internationals on the pitch at the same time ?

I know Hooper is yet to play in the Premier League, but baring in mind he has been scoring goals for fun in Scotland why not play him against Scotland? I know that most of the Scottish team are made up of English based players but he'll probably have some knowledge of how the Scottish team will approach the game and any weaknesses to the Scottish players than any other English Premier League striker.
