I know, but that was a one off which I'm sure the sponsors weren't thrilled about. Will it happen again? It's about manipulating the draw to aid the bigger clubs chances by keeping them separate. In essence taking away the "luck of the draw" which makes cup football what it is. It's the first time I'vey watched the draw to witness fully, the spin Sky put on it. I usually just read on here or elsewhere who we've drawn & get on with it.
Good to see that Newport got their reward for beating Brighton. Tasty Yorkshire derby for Doncaster too. We seem to like playing Leyton Orient! Unleash Proschwitz upon them!
At present, we haven't really got any reserve players! Eldin Jakupovic, Alex Bruce and Matty Fryatt vs Leyton Orient
We'll have a 25 man squad, plus the lads who have professional contracts, but don't get to play in professional games ?
I can see us getting knocked out unfortunately. These away games at decent lower league clubs can be really awkward.
As much as I like a cup run, getting knocked out would probably be a good thing in the long run. This season we need to focus on survival, and nothing else.
I'm not saying they shouldn't, I'm saying the draw shouldn't be manipulated to give the bigger clubs an advantage. It should be an "all in" & you play who you draw. If bigger clubs don't play other bigger clubs what's the point of a cup competition? It's the reasons given by Sky including "it'll be a big pay day for the smaller clubs." Do you think Burton will be financially secure after a visit from Fulham? They don't take any to PL away games. How many will Southampton take to Barnsley? Notts County going to Liverpool is the only instance of a little club going to a big club, only the big club will play a team of under 21s & the ground will be half empty.
They do eventually play them though, but it'd be a bit daft if non-league clubs got through without beating anyone hard. They have to earn it and that's why the giant-killings are so special.
Non League clubs aren't in it hence the name "The League Cup". The FA Cup isn't seeded & there are plenty of giant killings in each round. Round 1 & 2 usually non league beating league teams & from Round 3 it's a free for all. Why should bigger clubs be kept apart & be given an unfair advantage? Why take away the luck of the draw.
To be fair, The League Cup should really only include Football League clubs, so we shouldn't be anywhere near it this season.
